I have just joined this forum trying to get some feedback on whether caravanners think this is a saleable alarm into the caravan market. I have been importing these alarms into this country for 6 months now and have been fitting them into various machines like cigarette and drinks machines the alarm is about the size of a small mobile phone and has a motion detector , a vibration sensor and a noise sensor, when an alarm is detected the alarm rings you silently and you can listen in, (you can also listen in at any time) also as its using mobile phone technology you can track it at any time, the alarm just needs a simm card (pay as you go) it can be switched off and on , and the sensitivity set via a text message. I sell these between £200-£250 depending on how the pound is at the time, is it worth persuing the caravan market or do you think its too expensive?????

Nice sales pitch Mark, Perhaps I should reply in the same way to the identical post in the Insurance section.

As far as I can see, unless I'm missing something, there are oodles of these devices already advertised on the web to track your kids, your company vehicles, or the wife where neccssary !

Good sales pitch though, I guess you've got to make a living.

Not saying about your product but telling you about an alarm system we had on our camper which had a remote control operating range about a mile in good conditions. We were at the Shepton Mallet show and whilst there our alarm went off on the remote. I legged it back which took time only to find my Son and his girl friend had come back early and opened the door without realising that the alarm was set( we had give him a key).So what i am saying in my own view is that they are not worth it as the outfit would have been stolen, ransacked etc.By the way that remote cost us

Firstly I have only left the original posting on the site as it contains no contact details.

I strongly suggest that Mark reads the Forum Etiquette before posting any more.

Secondly this idea is about 5 years too late and there are better items on the market.

I think the replies up to now should have given you your answer mark, unfortunately caravans have been subject to theft for so long now that the caravan industry is right up at the top of the ladder with tracking technology, the only limiting factor being your own budget.

for the money your looking to ask we have much better technology available allready most of which is sold secure acredited which usually allows for an insurance discount.

nice try though.

Ever lost your car in a big car park eg Heathrow or the NEC? I have a panic button that works the car alarm and horns but you have to be within so many feet to activate. Just wondered if Mark or someone could come up with a "Where did I park my car" thingy?

Cheers

They have, its called a Sat Nav.

I use mine a lot for remembering where the car is in unfamiliar parking jungles.

I'm thick Damian!

Can I use my Tom Tom One for that then? I think I get it. Store present position, take it with you etc?? Never thought of using that way. God the grey cells must be going.

LOL,,,,took me a long time to realise I could use it that way, Dustydog.

But you have it, store current location and take the Sat Nav with you, which I always do anyway to save it being stolen.

Just a thought referring back to the original post. What happens when you are at a site with no service for the chosen Network provider? Only the other day I was on a site with a very low Orange signal, but a strong Vodafone signal. Would you need multiple Pay as you go cards?

Also, if you are miles way and you get this text message - would you really want to know??

I don't want it Nicked but if it is I don't want it back.

Months of wrangling over non availability of parts to fix what's broken. All the little dents and marks too small to deal with and disputed by insurance. It would never be the same again.

I don't want mine stolen either but if it is I don't want it back.

As ours in storage it is reassuring to know that it is still there. I put a mobile phone in it and then I can check if it is still there every other day.

I use www.followus.co.uk to track it. Works out quite cheap. If it has moved at least I will know.

Get an I-phone. There is a facility you can download for free which you set up when you park. You then ask the phone where you car is. Haven't tried it yet but I gather it does work
