Alko ATC anyone got one?

Has anyone had any experience using the Alko ATC system yet? I am seriously considering it for my new van but at £550 it would be good to hear some users opinions first.

Yes and must have now covered about 2000 miles. Have to say so far I have not known it to have "acted", though my brother has on his outfit and said you would certainly know it. His cut in through a series of bends.

Had mine fitted to my new van in March. The only time it's activated was on the way back from the dealers when I took delivery of the van. I went too fast round a mini roundabout and got a quick tug on the back of the car for a couple of seconds. Since then I've covered over 2700 miles and it hasn't operated once. I treat it like air bags, seatbelts and ABS on my car. A safety item that hopefully you'll never use but comforting to know it's there when you need it.

Had it fitted as an extra on my new 'van.

Completed about 4000 miles this year. It has activated a couple of times ... normally when coming out of roundabouts too quickly! On another occassion it activated when I had to swerve to avoid a crash.

Worth the money. Go for it.

A few dealers slated it at the show saying that people are seeing increased mpg and thge dealers are seeing more wear on the brakes,i suppose its how unstable your outfit is to how much this activates.

Mine came as a ome with the S6 Wyoming. Never actually noticed it kick in over last 12 months. It is on because it goes through the test cycle every time I hitch up. The green light says systems ok.

It's probably like a match. You don't know it works until you strike it.

Would I buy it at my own direct expense?

Yes.

Cheers

Alan

Had mine fitted last November by Alko. I don't know if it has actually kicked in but on two accasions when passing large sided vehicles at speed, I have felt a slight twitch from the van but then expecting the unit to sway a bit, nothing happenned. So it must work.

Sounds like Urban myths to me.

Do the dealers who report these drawbacks set caravans that do not have ATC as standard fitting?????

Mikey.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say it would be a 2 when I got carried away and let my speed creep up a bit when overtaking heavies. But since fitting ATC last Nov and about 5,000 miles it has twitched twice (at about 1 out of 10)for less than 2 seconds.

Hi David,

I have only experienced a snake once whilst caravanning and I can honestly say I was scared.

My 'van has an ATC fitted as standard and although it has never activated, the reassurance it provides is worth the expense.

I seem to remember Lutz recommending these devices and if he thinks they are worthwhile, that good enough for me.

I had mine fitted to my 2 year old Ranger Series V this July and I have to say I am very impressed. You no longer feel the slight sideways tug when passing lorries and I am sure without it there would have been a twitch or so when coming back from Yorkshire to Essex in August with 30 mph crosswinds, but it was faultless.

If you didn't experience a twitch then this is coincidence and has nothing to do with the presence of the ATC system. The working principle of the ATC is that it needs a twitch to active. What it does do is to kill the twitch when it does happen.
