Having just bought a new twin axle van at the NEC Caravan show, I wondered if anybody had any experiences with the new Alko Secure Wheel Clamp ?

Specifically the dealer told me that it would be extremely difficult to use two clamps because it is unlikely that you could get both wheels in line without jacking.

Please help......

You would have to be very lucky to get the holes in both wheels to line up, so you must jack up the van to align the holes.

I'm sure you will get plenty of advice from existing users, but I would advise you to look at the JSB HUBLOCK which was on the Home Office stand at the NEC (www.jsbhublock.co.uk) before deciding.

We recommend its use for home/winter storage and seasonal pitches.

It is designed to resist oxyacetylene cutting gear which is being used to remove wheel clamps and hitch locks.

I too have ordered a new twin axle Swift Conquerer 655. Our dealer explained that to fit the second wheel lock you have to jack up the caravan to align the second wheel. From a security point i would think one would be o.k. on site and perhaps both when stored. The Swift comes with Alko Jacking Points and an Alko jack. However I for one will not be jacking it up on site to align the second wheel!!I rang the Caravan Club insurance to see if I would get an extra discount if I fitted the Alko secure wheel lock. They said no, which surprised me considering how secure they are supposed to be.

I have the 2007 abbey 535 twin.ist time on site was rather difficult to fit 2nd lock.ist lock is easy, just reverse/forward until it aligns with the front wheel. Then, without un-coupling (you cannot apply hand break) jack the van with the jack supplied

and align 2nd lock. This takes approx 10 mins, rather a pain but they seem very secure.Lots of bits in bags and vhs video box's!!!

I have obtained a ratchet drive and 3/4 socket as the wheel brace

fouls the ground if not level.I am on my 4 trip now so it is getting better.Top tip, mark each lock and key as they are not interchange able/the same key,and register with alko incase you lose a key.

hope this helps

I have the Alko wheel clamp on a single axle and find that using the mover its easy to align the wheel with the clamp socket etc

Last time out I reversed the van onto the pitch and then realised that I hadn't done the clamp.I jacked up the wheel with a small trolley jack near to the Alko jack points.

It probably took less time than the old Milenco clamp

I wonder if it would be possible with a twin axle and mover on one axle to line up the non driven wheel and lock

before inching the other wheel round until it was in line.

It should work on grass and posibly concrete with a plastic mat under the wheel.

Pain in the but on a TA. My insurance only needs one axle plus an alarm, so when on site I only use 1 axle. When storing I take a trolley jack, it is then pretty quick and secure.
