Hi,

Last November the friction pads on my Alko 3004 stabilizer were contaminated by a caravan site tow vehicle. Can the pads be cleaned (only 1 year old and used for 500 miles) and if so what is the best way to go about it, cleaning materials etc. Any tips on removing the pads also appreciated.

Thanks

Richie

No need to remove the pads.

Give a good spray with Brake Cleaner is all that you should need.

It will dissolve any grease and evaporate to leave the pads clean and dry.

If you want to, you can use 400 grade wet and dry to roughen the pads in situ, spraying with Brake Cleaner afterwards

Presumably after spraying with brake cleaner you need to wipe out the fluid thoroughly or when the carrier solvent evaporates the grease will be left on and within the friction material?

I think afterwards I would drench the material again with the cleaner and then leave the void stuffed with tissue to "wick-up" any residue.
