Alko stabilising pads noise.

We recently fitted a new detachable tow bar and I’ve cleaned and removed the paint from the ball and degreased with brake cleaner but we are still getting a lot of noise when turning a corner (like an iceberg scraping against the titanic). We are currently on site so don’t have to worry about it for a few days but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to the pads in the stabiliser to reduce or remove the sound. When I get home I’ll probably order a new set. It’s a 2021 van ao they can’t have been worn that much?

Have you degreased the pads and cleaned their surface with fine enery or a sponge/abrasive pan cleaner, followed by a good spray of brake dust cleaner.

Did you also clean inside the hitch?

I had one that was particularly noisy when clean. But only when starting off and going slow. It happened at the start of each journey but quietened down after a mile or so. I learned to ignore it as it worked fine.

The pads have a habit of glazing over, so a bit of not so fine every might help.

I have a set of new, unused Alko hitch pads that I have no further use for, so open to offers!!

what does a iceberg scraping against the titanic sound like ? thought they all died.

I had this on a recent trip which considering I look after a lot of caravans I hadn't looked after mine for two years! a quick trip to a hardware store for 80 grit emery sorted it.

Before you spend money on new pads give the inside of the tow hitch a really good clean and spray with brake cleaner as others have suggested. Worth doing regularly as they glaze up. If still creaking then make Mr Plodd an offer. They are easy to swap over ( even we did it)
