ALKO tow ball/hitch

I have an Alko tow ball and a Alko 1300 stabilizer hitch. Both are brand new.The tow ball tends to score lightly when used. Is this normal?

Morganic,

I would clean the Towball with Whitespirit and lightly score the Friction Pads, inside the coupling head with fine emery paper, it could be that a small piece a grit/debris has become trapped and this is causing the scoring action to take place,

hope this helps and best regards, Martin

Don't use white spirit-its an oil and does not evaporate. Use brake/clutch cleaner from your motor accessory shop, or meths.

Keep the white spirit for cleaning paint brushes

Just as a matter of interest, you have cleaned all the black film from the towball before use havent you?
Thanks Yes I have cleaned off the paint. On closer examination the scoring is quite deep.Think I might need a new tow ball. Has anyone any ideas on scoring might have occurred. It is to front and rear of tow ball
