Alko tow hitch

Hi I have a sterling europa caravan with an alco tow hitch is it normal for these tow hiches to creek and grown when traveling round tight corners eg trafic islands or reversing.I keep the towball grease free, is that correct

The creaking can be down to a couple of things, one could be lack of grease on the hitch assembly and the other could be down to contaminated friction pads, you can clean the pads with some wet and dry abrasive paper and then spray break/clutch cleaner on the pads to get rid of the particles

Hi, had the same problem. Dealership said it was bedding in. Bull! I finally discovered I had a standard towball and not the long necked ALKO one needed. Check which one yuu have. Cost me less than a tenner to replace it,

hi many thanks will check to make sure its the correct towball

Hi Peter

Assuming there are no loose bolts on your tow bar or stabiliser head and you have the correct tow ball fitted as Homer suggested then-

the tow ball should be spotless, no paint, no grease, no rust etc...

The stabiliser pads should be clean also. I found rubbing some very fine wet'n'dry paper over them and then cleaning with brake cleaner, available from motor accessory shops, helped.

With the van unhitched and the stabiliser lever pushed down you can feel the pads either side of the head.

I still get a slight noise sometimes but that seems to be the norm.

Mike
