We have a Swift Challenger 530SE, year 2000. What are the pro's and con's upgrading to alloy wheels? I have to get new tyres soon and thought about upgrading. Any help appreciated.

If you do upgrade then when fitting, coat the hub with copperslip where it touches the alloy, this will prevent the wheel and hub sticking together, belive me they do stick after a period of time and you need a lump hammer and block of wood to clout them apart. Not somthing you want to be doing at the side of a motorway in the event of a blowout.

Hi Michael - don't forget to use the correct wheel nuts/bolts they are different to those used for steel wheels and also are pulled to a different torque setting - as a matter of interest does any one know whether car alloys (of the correct dimensions and PCD of course) are suitable for caravans? regards to all - John

Tony they do indeed stick on car hubs with studs and nuts but do they stick on the bolt on caravan hubs that are smooth and have no raised central ridge ?

I haven't found it a problem myself on 3 caravans with alloy wheels over a 7 year period.

Just wondered if anyone else has found this on a caravan

belive me they do stick on all types of fitting. I am a breakdown recovery operator an have changed many caravan wheels at the side of the motorway. The only way to shift them is with a heavey soft faced mallet or club hammer and a lump of wood to protect the alloy.
