Any suggestions for things to do in area? Going for Bank Holiday week, cheaper with camping cheques and cheap eurotunnel booking, than a site in the West Country, which was full,as appear to be most CC & C&CC sites. Hopefully the weather will be nice for once on a B/H!!!

There are some very interesting parts of Amiens, river-side restaurants, some gardens surrounded by small canals (and you can get boats to have a look around), some lovely green spaces, and somewhere an English-style garden. The centre of Amiens has some nice buildings, including the Cathedral, and years ago the railway station restaurant was really good!
It's not an area we've spent that much time in - sometimes just a stop-over on our way south, and it's some years since we were last there, however.
There are also all the war memorials around the area, and you're not that far from Paris should you fancy a day trip.

I can echo everything that ValA has said. It's a delightful city, in spite of the fact that we were told that it was very industrial, and not worth a visit!! We pitched at Camping Parc des Cygnes, on the outskirts of the town. It's a lovely site, with good facilities, and English-speaking wardens, and lovely walks along the canal. Page 158, Caravan Europe 1. I seem to remember it takes ACSI cards, too.It was so pleasant that we stayed on for two extra nights after our friends went home. Enjoy!
Thanks very much for the info, have sent off for the Tourist Office brochures.As you say, I was told it was a bit industrial by several people. The Amiens town website lists lots of attractions, quite a few indoors, which is good, as it is almost certain to rain as we are going Whitsun Week!!

I agree with Val that the centre of Amiens is quite attractive with the Cathedral a 'must visit'.
Herewith two other suggestions:
If you are intersted in WW1 history, there is an excellent museum 'Historial de la Grand Guerre' at Peronne, which is well worth the visit. Peronne is about 30 km East of Amiens. You could combine this with elements of the Somme battlefield just East of Albert, such a the memorial at Thiepval and the memorial park near Auchonvillers.
Just North of Amiens is the 'Underground City' at Naours. This is an incredible network of caves cut into the chalk in the third century, used by local people then and subsequently as a refuge in times of invasion. You can tour the caves.
You have presumably already booked a site, but for future reference, there is a very pleasant CL-type site at Bertangles about 8 km North of Amiens.

Too late for Oldievanner, I'm afraid, but I'd like to add to Emmerson's post. We also stayed at Parc des Cygnes, which was great for our dog (German Shepherd), because the site is next to a 'dogs welcome' park and opposite a huge municipal open space with sports facilities, where you could walk extensively in peace and quiet. At night the beautiful cathedral puts on a fabulous light/sound show, which goes on for half an hour or more and is completely free of charge. It was wonderful, and we topped that off with a stroll down by the river, packed with open-air restaurants. Site security at Parc des Cygnes is good, with a huge metal gate being locked at night and a swipe card system working during the day. Don't forget to order your rolls and croissants for breakfast!
