annoying tv aerials

hi chaps.

wonder if you can help, i bought an image tv aerial(suitable for digital) and pole for my a frame which works great with my old 15+ yr old portable but try it with my 22in flat screen with freeview etc? forget it, it dos'nt even attempt a picture no matter where i move it, its just a blank blue screen and the message "no signal" as if its just not even plugged in at all.

i am, i have to confess a little new to the world of caravaning.

am i doing somthing wrong?.

This subject comes up time after time.

MOST aerials made for and fitted to caravans are absolute rubbish. They are a complete waste of money. They simply don't do the job well, and it's high time that caravan manufacturers tackled the issue.

SOME work.....Most do not! MOST of them simply don't have the clout to pick up signals on caravan sites. Fine if you are almost next door to a transmitter, but usually they are rubbish. Even on brand new caravans they are invariably the weakest link.

Also....There is NO SUCH THING as a "Digital TV Aerial". It's been a 'sales con' ever since the introduction of Digital TV was announced. Any household aerial in good condition will pick up Digital TV.

Buy a normal Domestic TV aerial. We use a Philex one from Argos.
 
May not be applicable, but I found my old aerial cable for pluging into site bollard TV wouldn't work on digital but was fine on analogue. Bought some Satellite Cable and made a new lead - it works fine. The new cable is double screen and has a lower loss.

many thanks for that, does your domestic aerial work with digital? ie freeview etc too, what do you think to the caravan sat dishes?
 
Although the term "digital aerial" is a bit of a sales gimmick you will need a "hi-gain" aerial. This is really what a "digital aerial" is all about.

Unlike analogue TV, digital needs a minimum signal strength to decode and lock-on. You will get a lot of pixelation and picture freezing as opposed to a grainy picture with analogue with a weak signal. If its not up to a certain level you will get zilch.

Screwfix could be one of the cheapest although ebay tends to sell everything at a good price..... haven't looked to see though.

I agree the caravan aerials are rubbish and I'm surprised that manufacturers still fit them as opposed to knocking a
 
Hi Garry despite your posting the answer still hasnt arrived

So you get a picture on you old Telly but not on your flat screen so I would suggest here you do a retune of your telly(flat screen)this may well do the trick

We have a modern freeview flatscreen TV in the caravan, and yes it receives all the digital channels available in the area you are touring in without any problem at all.

Before, we had a freeview box, and it too worked fine.

Don't waste your money on caravan aerials. Just get a household one.

I've just installed a couple of new Digital TV's & received a 'No signal' message but went ahead & did an automatic tuning sequence & it found all the channels.

It might be worth trying to tune it in, even with the 'no signal' message.
 
hi gary i have used the image tv aerial you mentioned in your post also using via the a frame i always got good results with it even in weak signal areas i think its a tv tunning issue rather than the aerial itself.h.
