A work colleague has just bought his first van to try out vanning it is a 1990? ACE Jubilee Rallyman ? what chassis will this have because it seems one corner steady when wound down doesnt 'hold' so I suspect either the shaft or the nut that moves along it are damaged.Whilst i have removed these myself in the past it was over 20 years ago so remind me how to take it apart, does the steady have to be removed from the van and are parts available freely.

We had a front corner steady go on one our previous 'vans, the thread had stripped on the nut. We were actually on holiday at the time, OH was able to get the nut from a local caravan dealer, from what I remember it was well under £10, and it didn't take long to replace it - don't ask me how, though!! LOL

I've got one if you want it , it' a brand new alko corner steady I don't know where you live but I'm in Coventry if you are nearby you can have it free. Its similar to the BPW Corner Steady ADS460 on the Waudby's web site through the link in my last reply.

Mr Mods can you pass my details on to Plotter please

Hi Plotter, If the nut is broken, it's called a trunnion byy the way, you need to undo the two bolts that hold the steady to the floor, (a good wire brush and coating of easing oil helps) remove the steady from the van, the trunnions come in two sizes, most good dealers should carry them, remove the two screws and washers from the trunnion, remove damaged trunnion, you need then to spread the end of the steady thread the new trunnion onto the spindle, place in vice to press the steady together, screw in the new screws that come with the trunnion, refit to van, job done, if the bolts through the floor come out easy the job
takes about half an hour. Good luck.

Thanks George, the mists of time are clearing and I start to recall the process, the last time I did this job was on a 1986 Ace Quartz in around 1989 when ABI in their wisdom used 'trunnions' with nylon lugs.!

John o thanks for your input and indeed your offer of the steady,as you have perhaps seen the mods haver had problems passing on your details as for some reason my email address had gained and extra letter.
I now have your contact details however my friend has in the meantime got the steady off after having to remove the shower tray and he has exchanged the trunnion with a metal one the original being one of the hopeless nylon type.
Anyway from myself and my friend thanks again.
