ANOTHER pump problem!!

Recently had a problem with the pump being intermittant but with all the help on here got it sorted.

Now my latest problem, the pump would not switch off after turnig all the taps off, so every time we required water,we had to manually switch pump on and off at the control panel.

Then on the last morning although the pump was running (after switching it on at the panel) I had no water from either the hot or cold feeds.

Could one of the micro switches be stuck on, if so are they fairly easy to change and could I now have an airlock ?

your help will be much appreciated once again, Thanks

We had the same problem with our pump running on and only able to be switched off at the control panel. From memory (which isn't too good at the best of times! lol) I think it was the micro switch/pressure switch (are they the same thing?). We (or rather, husband) were shown how to adjust it....although it seems you have to keep adjusting it on a regular basis - or at least, we did.

Can't help with the no water at all thing though, sorry.

Hi Soozeeg,

Think the micro/pressure switch are two differant things, when I had the earlier problem I did adjust the pressure control wheel and it help solve the intermittant problem, but you have got me thinking perhaps I need to drop it back again as I have also been told that they can be voltage sensitive, i.e if the battery drops then it can make a differance.

I'll set it up tonight and have a play, thanks for your input.

Kev, I have no idea what you just said, but if I helped in any way (by accident!) and it works, then I'm glad! lol

Think I might have solved the problem the submersible pump is running but sounds like it's running dry.

Anyone know how to take the filter out to clean it? says on pump can be easily removed for cleaning purposes!!!!

Got the water running by testing the system with a mains water adaptor.(Which I dont normally use anymore but instead use the float in the aqua-roll type)

firstly there are 2 types of systems 1.micro switches on each of the taps these operate the pump each time a tap is opened.

2. pressure switch operated. this is a single switch that detects a low pressure when a tap is opened, & is usually located inside the caravan behind the water pump inlet

it sounds as if you have a pressure switch problem the system is not building up pressure to cut out the pump

as to pump running but no water this is usuall caused by a air lock in the pump & can be some times cleared by knocking the pump against the inside of the water barrel.or diconnecting the pump from the van the refitting it

there is no actual "filter"in the pump except the domed end of pump which can be sprung off

OK Kev, I'll whisper so no-one hears.....lmao means laughing my, erm, backside off, and pmsl means, well, having a waterworks accident whilst laughing.

Best I can do without breaking forum rules!! ;o)

Hi TD42, Thanks for your reply.

Always thought I had the micro switches as there is no switch behind the water pump inside the van, I have the inlet with a

variable control which is fitted to the main body of the van of which the pump is plugged into from the outside.

Quite confident it's the pump as said previous I have water when using the other system.

So tonight I will give it a tap on the barrel and see if that works. Let you know how I get on.

One more question; If I have to replace the pump, looking around most availible now seem to be "Hi Flow" will this make a differance to my "normal" one I have now?

.....from your previous posts about the intermitant problem then you definitely have a pressure system.

As you say your pump runs on then your first test should be to turn the mains power supply on or boost the battery volts by connecting to your car with the engine running.

If your pump now turns off due to the boosted battery voltage, then fine adjustement of the pressure switch is needed.

This is the adjustment as before to cure the intermitant problem.

A seperate issue is to make sure all your taps are fully off as far as they will go. Some makers fit a micro swith to a shower tap (even to a pressure system)

If this tap is not fully off the pump can continue to run.

Thanks Gaffabill,

Just to add to the problem I have tonight found a leak on the water heater(I've just posted another question about that one!!)

So my problem is proberbly related to the leak. So once I get that fixed I will have another go and just to be sure think I will purchase another pump and then at least I will have a spare.

P.S Getting cheesed off now think I might buy a TENT next time!LOL

Hopefully I can return the favour for your battery advice, I had a similar problem with the water pump carrying on running after turning the taps off, we have and 2004 avondale dart, the water inlet at the front offside not long after it comes in it passes through the pressure switch, it then splits 1 line goes to the water heater and the other to the cold taps, so when either the hot or the cold taps are opened the pressure drops in the feed pipe and the pump runs, the presure switch on mine at least has a adjustment screw on top of it, so make sure the system is full and then adjust this screw until the pump stops, I haven't had to adjust it since. Although it does sound like this won't do much until the heater leak is fixed.

Also I bought a high flow pump, because until I found the adjustment on the pressure switch I thought it was faulty, I must admit I didn't notice a huge difference.

PS I only recently switched from tents to a caravan, can't see me ever going back unless it just me the lad and a 2 man tent on the motorbike.

Happy caravanning

Thanks Graham, just a note on the pressure switch, I had to adust mine when I put the new fully charged battery on the van due to the increase in voltage and like you I havent had to touch it since. Have you fitted the battery yet? If not may be a good idea to test before you go away.

Ps Only joking about the tent!!

Forest Gump, think it was your advice about low battery last time , that sorted the problem for me so thanks for that.

This time I'm going to go the whole hog, fix leak in heater, buy a new pump, and charge the battery independently.

Watch this space!!

Why, is your heater leaking that much?? pmsl

Don't worry about it Kev, we sold it 4 months ago as we were moving house and wouldn't have been able to keep it at our new house (it was a huge twin axle). I dare say we'll get something else eventually!
