I'm due to change my car in March and would appreciate advice on either:

Passat Estate Highline 2.0 tdi 170PS CR

Volvo V70SE D3

I've had two Passats previously. The earlier model with the 2.0tdi 130 engine which were very good and I'm now on my second V70 D5 which is absolutely superb, but as the D3 engine costs less that could be a consideration.

I know that some of you won't be able to contain yourselves and suggest I consider 4wheel Drives, Mondeos, Insignias, Mazdas, Hondas, Mercedes, BMW and all of the others, but please don't waste your time. I've been caravaning for almost 30 years and I alone know what I like and require.

I tow with a Skoda Octavia vRS with the 170 CR engine. It is superb. No complaints at all.

Hi, we have the Passat estate Highline 2.0 tdi 170ps

good points, VERY powerful, good spec, lovely drive, pulls like train,massive luggage space, roomy interior,lots of toys, loads of torque.

bad points-thirsty, prop shaft failed at 2000 miles-into VW for repair, failed again following month, opposite CV joint failed following that (might have been a friday car!!)

Ours is going soon as it is a lease car attached to wifes job-will be sorry to see it go but was glad I did'nt pay full wack and buy it with the probs we had with it. my friend has Skoda like Fab, if you can live with the badge, I consider it to be a better buy than the passat
