Any one towed with a car converted to lpg

Haven't done it but thought about it a few times.

LPG consumption is 10-20% worse than unleaded and usable size of LPG tank usually smaller so the range between fill-ups is much reduced, particularly towing.

Boot space is taken up by tank - or spare wheel if a Donut tank is used.

I can't think of any other cons.
 
i tow with a jeep lpg converted tank holds 75 litres gives me 250 miles solo about 200 towing my van weighs 1800 fully loaded so not a small van.just had a weekend in great yarmouth cost us
 
Sorry, RogerL, but if you haven't tried it, how are you qualified to answer the query? I know you're entitled to your opinion, but your generalisations are quite wrong.

I've been using LPG for around 12 years now, on three different Range Rovers, so I feel that I am qualified to answer Alan's questions.

I have never noticed any reduction in MPG figures from gas to petrol, nor have I noticed any reduction in performance. My current RR has the gas tank where the spare used to live. The spare now lives flat on the floor, where the caravan spare used to live, with a false floor above it, where the dogs travel, so no loss of boot space. The caravan wheel now travels in the van.

I agree that the range is shorter with my tank, but as there are now well over 2000 LPG stations in the country, I don't find this a problem. I need to stop every 2 hours or so to relieve both myself and my dogs, so we simply time these stops to coincide with fuel top ups.

The biggest problem I have with running on LPG is what to spend the money on that I save every year!!

A website called "boostlpg" has a calculator which works out your annual savings, based on mpg and fuel cost. Since running LPG, I have saved
 
Emmerson - my level of involvement was clearly stated - ALL the authorities that promote, fit or sell LPG converted vehicles accept that consumption is not as good on LPG as the calorific value isn't as high, your opinion of equal consumption is unique - for most cars, the net capacity of an LPG tank will be considerably less than the petrol one so that range between fill-ups will be considerably less. Space has to be found for the extra tank - it needs consideration.

I wasn't trying to argue against LPG - I just stated the only two cons that I've found - the rest are pros.
 
Yes - with a Vectra estate and a SWB Shogun.

My current petrol Shogun is not converted - oh boy do I wish it was practical to convert and I could afford it!

My tip is look for an already converted vehicle and go for it a 40% reduction in fuel cost with no performance loss or any other disadvantage is reality.

Just ask any LPG user.
