Has any one had experience of caravan guard insurance for there van?
I'm usually a stickler and go with one of the two main clubs.
I have obtained a quote from them but there is no policy to read !
So at this stage Im unaware of there true cover.
I will of course ask them for a policy to read but was just wondering on peoples experiences with claims etc.

You access policy details via the Clubs’ websites?

The link you provided is for the CAMC Caravan Cover, OP was referring to Caravan Guard which is based out of Halifax, Looking at their site it does appear that there is a link to policy documents: https://www.caravanguard.co.uk/tour...T676&sourcebusID=3NG8R027&activityID=3ONROFL1 . The Policy wording itself can be found here: https://www.caravanguard.co.uk/downloads/touring_caravan_policy_booklet-230821.pdf .

Well there you go. I read Kevs third paragraph as a continuation of his second paragraph. 🤭

Any insurance is only as good as its performance when a claim arises.
Perhaps people's experience in that situation would be most helpful.
This is what I was also looking for really, real reports from real claims from real caravaners.

I also found the policy after taking another look, thanks all.

For info there quote is £134.00 cheaper.

Also a long term Caravan Guard customer but never needed to test the performance in event of a claim! From experience their price is competetive as you posted while I was typing. Also read excellent reviews 4.9/5 on Trustpilot!

Another happy customer, no sneaky clauses Like Towergate who don't cover your caravan if unhitched unless you pay an additional premium (See the other thread re storing in France or Spain for proof)
English speaking agents, very clear with what is and isnt covered, competitive price. I have been using tgem for many years (but no claims made)

Another plus for Caravan Guard. I needed to leave my van unattended for more than 48hrs on a coupe of sites last year. Called them and gave the locations cover agreed FOC.

Thanks for all the replies, I started to read reviews on Trust Pilot and only found one person up to page 6 that had made a claim, and that was 20 years ago!!!

Hi, I've used Caravan Guard in the past with no issues. Five years ago, I moved to Swift caravan insurance, after buying a Swift Elegance in 2020 and surprise, surprise Caravan Guard is the manager of Swift insurance. I've therefore been using them for a good few years with no issues. Hope this helps you,

Surely someone has experienced a claim with Caravan Guard? The acid test 😉

Kev seeThis.
The general consensus from everything I have read indicates CG is fractionally ahead of CAMC policy on claims performance. On that basis alone I’d be happy to go with them. But do check the wording to ensure you are getting what you want.

Given that caravanguard have been insuring caravans for many years I cannot recollect seeing any adverse comments on PCF or CT wrt claims. Given that people rarely post positive experiences (DD excepted) the lack of grumbles I would take as a positive. I considered using Caravanguard at one time but at that time the Clubs offerings were competitive so I alternated between the Clubs and stayed that way until we sold the caravan.

I have just had a quote, this morning from Caravan Guard, and the quote ( market Value) comes out at £197 against £268 for Caravan and Camping club.
I have read the policy details, and that looks ok, it covers two night on my drive for loading / unloading. Everything else looks good. So I think I will be changing to them at the end of this month.

When I took out insurance with Caravan Guard, they were probably the cheapest when compared to the clubs and Towergate.

However, I had forgotten that the storage location of the caravan was now both my driveway and a Seasonal Pitch. They were very good sorting this out, and provided a solution which didn't really affect the premium. I think there was a small fee, but I had already taken out the policy.

We have used them for 3 years. When we moved our caravan into CASSOA storage for 9 weeks during a house move they gave us a rebate. When we moved it to the new house they gave us another rebate! I'll see what happens at renewal in May.

Have used them from as long as I can remember, and then changing over to the Swift insurance when buying last new caravan which is also administered by them. Times i have compared them with other insurers but they have always remained competitive so stay with them.

Everyone please be aware that Towergate (mentioned earlier) do NOT include accidental damage if your caravan is not attached to a towcar. So on your drive, on a campsite etc you have NO "accidental damage" cover unless you have paid an additional premium!

Thanks Mr Plodd,

Their Policy Wording is one of the worst I have seen in a long time. It took me until page 26 before I found out the start of what is covered.

This link to another Forum I use will make you sick! See This

I am aware of someone on another Forum who, when hitching up, their caravan "ran away" injured them and suffered some substantial damage.
They we're insured with guess who? Yep Towergate, who stuck to their policy wording and did pay out because??? The caravan was not physically attached to the towcar when the damage was caused.
Hence my posting the above from their website to warn others of the pitfalls of insuring with them.

I think we have to be a bit careful , Forum rules etc. But it is a sad day when small print stuffs honest people!
