Aquaroll ball valve

I decided to fit an Aquaroll side entry ball valve before going to Devon for a two week break. Everything went together perfectly, the Aquaroll filled and the water flow was shut off just as I expected. However when I returned from a day out I found that the water hose had split and poured water all over the hard standing pitch. The next day I replaced the hose with some from a local Caravan dealer and turned the tap almost off. yes you guessed it, 5 hours later that hose burst as well. I know that it was very hot , but I was hoping to use this in the South of France this year. Any suggestions anyone?

Turning the site tap down will only reduce the pressure when there is flow. When the drum gets full, the ball valve will turn off and you will get full line pressure on the hose. To reduce pressure in the "no flow" condition need a pressure reducing valve which is not likely to be fitted on the site.

Having had the same trouble with a flat roll-up hose, i now use a good quality construction site hose (usually they are yellow) together with decent brass ftiings, not cheap plastic. So far this has worked. Pressures can be very high on some continental sites - up to 10 bar in some cases - so only the best will do.

Having now tried a few experiments at home, the problem is indeed the fact that even with the water completely turned of at the mains, the pressure builds in the hose due to the heating effect of the sunshine. As there is no where for the water to go, it expands and eventually bursts the hose. The only solution appears to be:

1. Turn of water at mains.

2. After turning of water, open tap inside van to lower water level in Aquaroll thereby allowing the expanding water to escape into the Aquaroll. All a bit fiddly and prone to problems with poor memory. Could be more trouble than just going to fetch water twice a day.

Hi Steve

Only ever had this problem once with very cheap water hose. have got some slightly re-inforced hose now - works great, even in hot weather.
