C.C. mag has an advert for number plate size sign with the word TOWING on it, for a price of £30. "So other road users can see you are towing". If other road users canot see I have a small bungalo atatched to my car then I think its time to get off the road and buy a static. I can certainly see this company coming from a long way off.

There are any number of mugs out there that will think this a great idea. I think a trip to Spec Savers would be better suited.

I had assumed that they, or a simmilar sign, were a legal requirement should you be towing a broken down vehicle not a caravan ????

A On Tow sign is required at the rear of a towed vehicle being towed, or in the case of a trailer or caravan reflective triangles, which were fitted seperetly but are now built in to the rear light cluster.

But if the 'TOWING' sign is on the back of the caravan, doesn't that mean the caravan is towing something? Shouldn't the sign say 'CARAVAN BEING TOWED'.

But isn't a caravan always towed? D'oh! LOL Unless it's a motor caravan of course but then, that's obvious.

I like the idea of changing the plate for "STOLEN" as a thief in a hurry to pinch your van is unlikely to check your plates. Just remember to remove it when you go away though.

Home Our Signs Why T-SIGNs FAQs Buy Online TandCs Links Contact Us Basket T-SIGN Magnetic

Towing SignLearn more about T-SIGNs, how and when to use them. We have prepared a list of frequently asked questions about T-SIGNs and how they work.

How should I prepare my vehicle before applying my T-SIGNs?

Ideally both the vehicle and the reverse side of the sign should be clean, dry and preferably, lightly waxed. A normal car wax product is suitable for this purpose. Check all the edges of the sign and particularly the leading edge for damage or raised bumps. A bump on the leading edge can allow air and moisture to ingress under the sign causing it to lift off the vehicle during use.How should I fit my T-SIGN to my vehicle?

T-SIGNs are designed to be fitted to both Driver and Passenger doors. We do not recommend fitting your

T-SIGN to any other surface on your vehicle.

Simply allow the front edge of the sign to come into contact with the door panel whilst holding the back edge of the sign. Once contact has been established use your front hand to press the sign against the vehicle door, thus removing any air pockets or bumps. What else do I need to know?

Precautions

Take care when applying your T-SIGN to all vehicle surfaces, particularly metallic and new paint finishes.

Vehicle surfaces should be checked carefully prior to fitting your T-SIGN, check for grit or other debris which could cause a scratch. Waxing to both the back of the sign and the vehicle will help prevent damage.

Take particular care with re-painted vehicle surfaces and those of brand new vehicles. A thorough hand waxing of the sign and area for application is recommended.

T-SIGNS are designed to remain in situ for short periods of time. If your T-SIGN is to be used more frequently it is important to allow the covered surfaces of the vehicle door some extended exposure to the natural ultra violet light of the sun to evenly 'weather' the vehicle.

Magnetic signs fitted to car bonnets are not recommended; a bonnet profile may not be flat and the metal work may exceed the heat tolerance for the signs once the vehicle is in motion. Avoid applying to frozen, frosted, wet and hot vehicles.

T-SIGNs cannot be applied to door panels which have been 'filled' following damage repair. T-SIGNs can only be applied to STEEL vehicle doors. Avoid leaving the signs in extreme sunlight for prolonged periods whilst on and off the vehicle. When signs are fitted do not exceed legal speed limit for towing, 60mph. (T-SIGNs are tested up to 70mph).How should I care for my T-SIGNs?

Remove your T-SIGN from your vehicle at the end of your journey.

Remove Road film and any dirt using warm water and mild detergent. Avoid cleaning fluids and solvents. Please don't use a scouring pad or abrasive cleaner.

Ensure that your T-SIGNs are completely clean and dry before storing T-SIGNs.

Remove your signs from your vehicle when parked during hot and very sunny periods. Accidental wrinkles can sometimes be removable with the careful use of a cool iron and a flat firm surface. How should I Store my T-SIGN?

Store your T-SIGNs flat or preferably in a T-SIGN storage case. The case is designed to keep the signs clean and to prevent the ingression of unwanted particles.

Store your T-SIGNs in a dry and clean environment.

Do not put heavy objects on or leaning up against signs whilst in storage. Impressions may be difficult or impossible to remove.

Store at room temperature out of direct sunlight.

T-SIGN EUROPE cannot be held responsible for any loss of a sign or damage to a vehicle surface or fittings.

T-SIGN EUROPE is unable to monitor customer use and as such cannot accept any claims for loss or damage sustained whilst using a T-SIGN.

T-SIGNs should not be modified in anyway as this may impair their effectiveness.

Hugh,

I think the reason signs are put on the towing vehicles doors is for the benefit of pedestrians especially if the vehicle being towed is on a rope/bar.

Some people just don't have a clue...when the local carnival is on the max size of the floats can be

5.33 meters high

3.35 meters wide

30.48 meters long

you would think people could see them coming and not be as stupid as to walk in between the towing vehicle (normally a big agricultural tractor) and the trailer but they did, so now they have to put a chain either side of the drawbar between tractor and trailer and have a person walk either side as well.

A few years ago the caravan club gave away in their magazine a laminated sign which you put on the inside of the window at the rear of the caravan( some vans don't have a rear window now).

The idea was that when you were not using your van you put it in the window but when towing you removed it.

Oh yeah it said somsthing like' If you are reading this sign, this caravan has been stolen'
