Atc trailer control

L am in the process of buying a new Lunar Clubman, l know the ATC picks its power up from the 13 pin plug via pin three l think.

I have heard that some cars have had trouble where the ATC didn't work due to the cars electrical system; the one that comes to mind was the X Trail.

I have a Shogun 07 with a Mitsubishi tow bar and electrics fitted, any one towing with the 07 Shogun onwards with ATC and did they have trouble.

How do you know the ATC is engaged, is their a indicator light of some description

The reason l ask is because we pick the van up on Friday and are due to go away the following Friday for two weeks and if the ATC is not working correctly my insurance is void, is their way of telling when you are towing, the literature says most drivers will not know that ATC was activated.

I cannot answer your question as I have no intimate knowledge of the system. There may be different answers depending on the vehicles involved, but it seems to me that the most appropriate and accurate way to resolve your question is to ask the fitter or supplier.

l will be asking the dealer the question, how do l know ATC is engaged and working, is their some indication on the trailer coupling that tells you everything is o/k.

If there is and l find l have problem then it will be back to Mitsubishi.

As soon as the caravan is connected to the car and receives its 12v supply, the ATC system will go through a check cycle and the LED light monitoring the system will show green if everything working correctly, red if out of action but driveable, and will flash red if the caravan's brakes are applied, making the outfit non-driveable.

You can hear the Alko ATC fitted to our bailey engage as you plug in the electrics(Kia Sportage 2 X 7 pin plugs via an adapter), then an LED displays Green if everything is OK. Occasionaly ours displays flashing green, which really worried my the first time it happened but as soon as I pulled over to check everything it went to steady green. This has happend a few times since with no problem. I think it may happen when the brakes are engaged due to over-run, which is why it clears as you drive off.

I can't really say if the ATC has been sucessful or not as I haven't felt it engage, but we have had no snaking either. I am touching my desk while typing this.

We have had it on a S6 Indiana for nearly three years,it goes through self check and light goes green.It has engeaged a few times mainly when huge Sprinter vans and the like go flyin past you feel a bit of a tug as the van brakes pulling the car,its nothing frightening,it nips the swaying in the bud so as to speak.It did lock up once on the selfcheck once due to a fault on the wiring on the car.We had to remove the ctivation bar its all covered in the instruction book.The towbar fitter had connected to a thin wire with a scotchlok which lost its connection during the checking cycle.A thicker cable from the battery complete with a fuse sorted it

We have ATC on our Indiana also and tow with an X-trail. Don't know where you heard about problems with X-trails and ATC but ours has been fine for 2 years.

I have a 59 X-Trail with Bailey Monarch - Green light always on hitch-up - no problems of any kind. Even with big Coaches pounding by, van never moves!

I have ATC fitted to my Burgundy and its been great, however since it came back from its first service the LED fails to illuminate. When I plug it into the car it goes through its self test but then I have no idea what its condition is. The brakes aren't activated so thats good.

You need to get it checked out, otherwise its an expensive bit of kit that may or may not be working,and if you find you need it and its not there well who knows.

The problem I see is the company that did your service at the service will probably deny any responsibility, leaving you to pick up the bill for repairs.

Yes John, I agree. I have been in today but the Bailey dealer who is also an Alko 'specialist' tells me that they are not allowed to work on the ATC equipment, only Alko themselves or Miriad Products that can work on them.

I have managed to get them to send me a new LED assy. to see if that fixes it.
