Spam in General. I dunno, you'd think these Mods would be sitting here throughout the night to deal with the spammers as they put in an appearance, wouldn't you. hehehehe

I'm not sure if we've missed any today, we appreciate the help of forum members in reporting spam and inappropriate material to us so that we can deal with it as quickly as possible.
The scale of the problem is enormous and mods wage a constant and unending war against spam merchants every single day.
Between us in the 24 hours between 08.20 yesterday 18th October and 08.25 this morning we banned exactly 50 of these maggots who want to ruin our forum.
There have been another 3 since 08.25 today. This is typical, sometimes there are even more than that and some of them have been banned as many as 3 times so far.
The ones we have got rid of are only the spammers that we could positively identify as such using a free database that we've found on the internet, there are bound to be some who slip through the net because they haven't shown up on the database yet.
We have to wait for those who we miss to put something on the forum or elsewhere on the website and then we ban them immediately.
Believe me Sue, if we hadn't been given access to the tools that we now have nobody would be able to see the forum for spam so once again I appeal to all members -
If you see an unauthorised advert often with links to financial services or 'medical ' supplies never click on the link, tell the mods!

It's occured to me that there may be members who are not sure what we mean when we mention 'spam' and 'spammers' on the forum.
Besides being a variety of canned meat which first was sent from the USA to Britain during world war 2, 'spam' in the context of the internet is basically unsolicited bulk messages sent often to email addresses or in our case to this website.

Those who send spam are 'spammers' (I won't tell you what I call the lousy !&*@@£?>!!) and by sending these messages contained in posts often containing adverts or offering 'services' not only are they breaking the rules, terms and conditions of this website but their activity is illegal under international law.

If forum members notice spam anywhere on this website either use the 'flag as offensive' link at the bottom of the spam posting or submit a post F.A.O. Moderators in this section of the forum please.
Never under any circumstances click on any of the links contained in the spam, your computer could be corrupted and ruined and your personal and financial details may be compromised if you do.

I forgot to add earlier, since the 29th September 2010 when mods were given access to the tools that we needed to to the job, between us we've blocked the accounts of over 1500 spam merchants. That's 1500 in less than a month!
We might get to enjoy this banning process so much that we can do it in our sleep

There are several major spam block databases available which would work John. The free database that we use in order to identify spammers can be attached to websites and the biggest information based anti - spam site allows black /whitelists as I'm sure you're aware.
Anything that gets rid of these scum suckers is fine by us

But the mods will have nothing to do then, as we're all so well-behaved on here............

Yes, but integrating them into our particular platform could be quite dificult, so we're taking the easy* way and looking at one built by the guy who invented the content management system we use.
