I vaguely remember when i lived in the UK and touring with my van that it was law that you had to have an Audible Indicator Gizmo connected to your indicator wiring in the boot area.
Is this still law in the UK and exactly what is this device called and can it be fitted easily if you have basic diy skills.......Do they sell them on the likes of eBay ?? or where do you get them from !
Thanks
Tony

The law requires an audible or visual warning that trailer indicators are functioning - it can either tell you when they're working OR when they're not working.

……..some vehicles already have the device fitted at manufacture and will comply with the current law if a tow bar is subsequently fitted.
Simply correctly wiring up the tow bar electrics activates the system that has lain dormant until then.
It might be worth checking if you have such a vehicle.

hi,
gafferbill is correct the meriva has one, it's fitted to the towbar loom behind the left side panel,
however if your car hasn't got one they can be fitted dead easy. if memory serves it's a little black box the size of a matchbox with 5 wires.
white, to earth
green. left hand indicator for trailer.
yellow. right hand indicator for trailer
black. left hand car loom
grey right hand car.loom
it works by bleeping when the draw on the indicator wires increases ie when the trailer lights draw extra current but does not respond when the plug is removed or a light is inoperative and yes they are mandatory,

When i fitted the dedicated wiring loom ( plug-n-play ) it came with another flasher relay.
I swapped for the original under the dash, & that buzzes only when the van or trailer are hooked up.

It also buzzes when the hazard lights are put on
