Good point about the fuel with prices as they are..

We have just been doing some calcs..... oh boy....we got up to a thousand without trying!!!
This would be quite pricey, and we have august to cost out yet!! Thinking of paying for the all the kids aswell as its a special year..

The more I think about the getting there and only 5 days the more I'm thinking this is a lot of money!!!

Anyone any ideas?

While on the subject of fuel prices, during the last couple of months prices here in Germany have been up to 8 cents a litre cheaper on Sundays and until 4pm on Mondays. The prices then magically go up, only to drop again at the weekend. Yesterday morning, E10 grade petrol was 1.49 Euros at the petrol station around the corner. In the evening it was 1.56.

Smiley. why are you down to Only 5 days now?
"Ideas?" Drive dont look for night stop over places, Evan at an average of 50 mph you can too 500 miles easy,If that is your husband has any experience of driving 10 odd hours a day with a couple of long 1 hour rest breaks.
if as you say you are getting an early crossing, you could make luxemboug for 2ish in the afternoon, have long break fill up and then from 3.30 pm you could keep going till 9pm [break inbetween] having covered 470 plus miles from calias.
Park and sleep at a german service station, and if like me by 6Am you would be on the move again, 1 and a half days and you are there.

In and around Luxemburg is a pretty safe part of the country so you'd be OK to stay overnight at a service area there. If you plan to be off again early enough in the morning before they open for business you can also use supermarket car parks just off the motorway. I've done that, too.

I've never heard of problems in Germany, either.
By the way, you can always stop over behind our back garden. We live only minutes away from the junction of the A3 and the A66 between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt.
I'll throw in a electrical hook-up as well.

Lately, because of the cost of petrol, I have been tempted to drive via Luxemburg, where it's a lot cheaper. Thence via, Namur, Charleroi, Mons, Tournai, Lille (thus bypassing Brussels). I've never found that route very busy except on occasions in and around Lille, depending on what time of day you get there. From where I live it's just a long slog to get to Luxemburg, because unless I do a big detour, there's no way using just motorways.

Hi Taffy
I don't know if this is any help to you but we travelled down to Slovenia last Summer towing and stopped at
Camping Buttelwoog, Dahn for a one night stopover. Dahn is a little south east of of Pirmasens and quite near to the autoroute.
It is a pleasant campsite although we did not see at its best as it was raining torrentially when we arrived and we left early the next morning to get in a good day's travelling. Your can read my review here.

Hope this helps
Tim
