Hi there

Has anyone used the motorway from Vienna to Klagenfurt/Villach going via Graz? We are thinking of using this route but it looks to be very twisty in places. Is it a fast route or are there many long climbs over the mountains. Also has anyone been to Camping Tulln north of Vienna and what is it like?

Happy travels.

Thanks BarryB

If its a motorway it'll be OK. Check with the CC Bible (Camping Europe 2).

Don't forget you'll need a vignette to travel on them and may have to pay supplements on tunnels and large bridges!

I haven't been on that section of the Austrian motorway system, but in general gradients are very mild. Maybe the road is so twisty in order to avoid steeper gradients.

We have been on this motorway twice from Villach to Vienna and there are no problems at all. Tulln is a very nice site have stopped there twice but last time we went in 2007 it was quite crowded book ahead if you can. This year we stopped at Wien West to do Vienna and it was a lot more convienient travelling by bus and underground into the city. Very near the Schonbrunn Palace too which is beautiful. Have a lovely time I envy you Southern Austria is my favourite area in Europe.

Did that stretch a few years ago, don't recall any problems.

Never had a problem on austrian Motorways. As long as you observe the speed limits and have a Vignette you'll be fine.

Been driving to austria for the past 5 yeas, we love it there. Only recently back from 2 glorious weeks in Carinthia at Camping Brunner, on the Millstattersee.

And Austria motorway service stations offer fantastic food, often cooked to order right in front of you.

One day we'll be living there.

It tends to be cold there in Winter!
