Aux Switch?

Hi all, I like my Compass Rallye 490 GTE... I travel about a lot with the kids on my own and am taking a while to get ued to its quirks... It didnt come with any handbooks whatsoever.... what exactly does the aux switch do? does it need to be on or off for charging the battery whilst on tow?
