Does the card need to be activated by Smarty? I have found them to be very responsive to queries.

Things that spring to mind.
Is this the first time you've used the Avtex?
If so have you set it up to work with the Smarty SIM?
SMARTY APN settings:
Name: 3.
APN: mob.asm.net.

Try rebooting your router.

Have you got internet access on your mobile phone?
If so, can you try swapping the SIMS over into the router and phone to see if that makes any difference?

Are you in a poor reception area?
It's quite possible to have a full signal from the router but a poor 4/5G data signal from the phone mast will result in poor internet connectivity.
Smarty tends to be great in towns and cities but a bit flaky in rural areas. This is why I bit the bullet and swapped my unlimited Smarty SIM for a more expensive EE one for better coverage.

Is the present router locked to one ISP whilst the older unit was unlocked? If it is branded it may be so.
In terms of Interweb etc I wouldn't trust ANY dealer further than I could throw him! They are useless when it comes to anything other than totally standard fitment equipment.
If you have a spare smartphone you could try the Smarty SIM in that phone and switch the hotspot on?
