Awards for hard working site owners

Having been on a 5 star site where the management level was horizontal to say the least, and then having to move to an AA 2 pennant site because it is open all year, I reckon there should be an award for the hardest working warden/owner.

The site where I am now is privately owned and the owner is the warden, maintainece man, receptionist and cleaner. Adrian has worked tirelessly throughout the last month to keep water flowing, decorate and paint the facilities ready for the new year. He is always on hand if required and leading from the front.

So never mind the sites having awards, why not reward the efforts of those who give up that fireside chair to work in the coldest winter for 25 years just so that people can have running water from an outside tap etc.

Anyone can add a review of a site that they have visited that they like on our sister website by simply clicking on the Caravan Sitefinder advertisement at the top of the forum page or on the logo on the left hand side.

If you have been impressed by the wardens or other staff on a particular site you could say so in your review and have the chance of winning

Hi Parksy.

I'm aware of the site review facility. You seem to of missed the point somewhat.

What I'm talking about is the effort put into serving customers by individual efforts. I don't want

'Perhaps a new forum for this could be generated by the techies. We as public could recomend and then PC team could varify.'

That's the best laugh that I've had in ages!

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting if I were you Steve ;0(

I thought you'd like that one. Trust you didn't hurt yourself while rolling on the floor.

Your idea is a nice one Steve but we've been told that no improvements can be made to this forum at this time.

My point about the Caravan Sitefinder was that sites with good staff will get free publicity via reviews and more custom thus securing the jobs of the helpful staff for the future.

There's nothing to prevent anybody from praising the wardens etc in a review.

Minor detail Parksy.

But Cuckoos Corner is not on caravan site finders listings, it's on UKCampsite.co.uk

So it looks like unless the techy's move a bit faster than Brian the snail, a deserving cause might be lost.

Caravan Sitefinderis our sister website and forum and I'm not sure how sites are chosen to appear on the website listings. I think for a park to be included you either have to submit a review or the site contacts Caravan Sitefinder themselves.

It might be a minor detail as you mentioned but if nobody sends in site reviews how would those looking on the website know about these sites?

You could contact alyson.warnock@haymarket.com I'm sure that she will provide the information for Cuckoos Corner to be included in the listings.

Thanks Parksy.

Will do that. While this site is not the biggest or the newest, it is a handy site and the owner is a star.

Steve. Speaking as one of those people you mention, tell the warden/owner that you appreciate his hard work. That is all the reward we want - and it makes up for the ones who have no idea what goes on in the winter when they say things like "it must be great to have five months off a year".

Hi Colin.

I have congratulated Adrian the site owner already. I've also sent a site review to Alyson Warnock at PC to hopefully get the site duely recognised.

After spending December battleing with frozen, ill-fitted pipes at a 4* site with a team of 4 people, and then going to this one man band site at Moreton on Lugg, I though I had no chance of filling the water barrels. But how wrong was I.

On moving to our seasonal site I have found very little change.

A splash of paint here and there but no changes to try to avert frozen pipes. I know we had the worst winter in 30 years I caravanned through all of it!

But if Adrian can try my suggestion of digging down 18" around the water pipe and fitting pipe insulation, then back filling, and achieve running water all year then I'm sure others can too. All it cost was 68p, yes 68p per pipe for the insulation, plus an hour of his time. He was suitably chuffed with the result, but more over the site tennants were too.

That's why I would like to see wardens or owners awarded for their efforts. Their reward is more visitors more often.

Atb Steve
