Awning beading

After purchasing a second hand awning, we found that the previous owner had removed the beading from the last 3 foot or so of each end of the awning, so we pulled the ends inside the awning, pegged them down, then pegged the outside edge of the awning against the van. The skirt goes over it so it's all neat inside and out. We said we'd replace the beading but have actually found this better than having the beading right to the bottom of the van. We've recently noticed other vans with their awnings like this too - anybody else find it better like this???

Presumed it had been removed as there are numerous snips in the casing - and our old awning had beading all round.
