Awning Conversion.

I have been given a 'full sized' awning which is in very good condition but which, unfortunately, is about a metre shorter than the size specified for my caravan.

A friend has told me that it is perfectly feasible to use it as what, in effect, would be a large porch awning.

Has anyone tried ( and succeeded ..! ) to make such a conversion and if so, how is it done please.

All helpful suggestions gratefully received,

Olly.

have a look on the Isabella site, they do a section that you fit to the awning so that it fits against the side of the van like a porch awning other makers may do them as well.

They extend or reduce awnings and have been around a very long time and will advise if what you want is possible.

They also have a fast collection and delivery service if you are not local.

Hi Olly, I use a short Isabella awning as a porch awning. You will need a porch pole which will fit against the caravan wall.

You need to fit the awning into the awning rail as far as where the side of the awning starts, then pull the beading out of the rail (eventually it will need to be cut when you are sure you have the correct length)Hopefully, at this point the side will come down from the rail at a point along your caravan which does not have a window or door in the way. If it does, it may fit starting it from the other end. The porch pole then fits up to the side of the caravan and the rest of the awning fed into it. It fastens to the roof pole and comes straight down to the ground, holding the side of the awning. It's all tensioned in the usual way, with one exeption. the place where the porch pole is fastened to the roof pole is susceptible to sliding along in the wind. I use a guy rope to prevent this.

Difficult to describe, but if the size allows you to cover the door and not then be obstructed by windows etc. it's perfectly feasible.

Hope this helps.

Peter
