Awning - fitting on another van

I've just sold my 17ft van and bought a 15ft one as the other one was too big for two people. My current awning has only been used twice with a tall annexe so if I sold it, I would be out of pocket.

Will my 17ft awning be far too big for the smaller van? I can get it taken in but thought I'd ask people's opinions first.

Lisa,

Probably, maybe, perhaps! I know that doesn't make a lot of sense but it will really depend on the ground to ground size of the awning and your new van. Usually awnings don't exactly match the ground to ground size of the van they are for,e.g the van might be 870 ground to ground and the awning nearest is 860. So if your awning was at the lower limit for your last van it might, just might, be at the top limit for current van.

Also van body length is not always an accurate indicator of size of awning required. My current van is shorter in body length than previous van but I had to get my awning extended as the ground to ground size was greater. Obviously the shape/outline of awning rail was different.

Hope I haven't made that too confusing. If you do need to have the awning altered the Canvas Repair Center can be recommended.

Lisa, measure ground to ground round the awning rail, then measure the beading length on the awning.10cms over should be OK. I thought you'd recently bought that van.Didn't you have a write off recently, or am I getting confused again?

Hi emmerson. I had one written off last year.

NOT last year, it was 2005. Oh how time flies.

hi lisa

I would take the van and awning out and give it a try just in case before selling it.

as usual robert and emmerson are right its the bead length and ground to ground length thats important not the awning size its self.

HOWEVER, I say go try it, because if the awning has pleats on either side same as our dorema you can alter the angle of the sides nearest the van there by increasing or decreasing the awnings overall length. ie: our bailey uses an awning that is in theory 2ft too big.

Thanks Colin. I'll do that.
