Awning frame type?

Hi.

For the past 3 yrs I've used an Inaca Elba awning (975cms) with fibreglass frame. Great awning and love the fibreglass frame but I've now changed caravan and need an 1100cm awning. Due to increasing awning prices I'm thinking of a Harrington.

Has anyone out there any experience / opinion on using a fibreglass frame at this size as I'm wondering if I'd be better off with steel this time?

This is not for a seasonal pitch but the awning is used every weekend during summer.

Any opinions greatly received.

Ian, l bought the Harrington Awning in October when l purchesed a new Ace firestar which needed a 1000cm awning, l was advised by Discover Leisure that steel would be the better option due to the extra weight of the canvas.

It inreases the weight you have to carry but l feel sure it's the better option with our changing climate (rain high winds 3 sesons in one day sometimes you know what l mean Ha!).

We first erected the awning at Southport cc which took the best part of one an half hours, for the first time l did not think that was bad.

One thing l may invest in one of the awning tensioners which will help get the canvas taught.

We were impressed with the awning felt like an awning of thousand pound we only paid

i too have a 1100 harringtons awning, and i was advised by discover that the lightweight frame was a no no for that size.

i thought that was fair enough since they could've just ripped me for 50quid extra for the lightweight frame.

superb awning though, incase you're wondering.

Thanks a lot for the replies, supports what I suspected. As a matter of interest at the moment the price difference is is 150 hard earned quids!

Ian, yep that's what they quoted me in October, but like the last email they could have ripped me off like wise.

Well done discovery.
