An awning should be waterproof, but some new ones do need to get wet so the stitching swells into the needle holes before they keep the rain out. Is yours a brand new awning?

Pitch so any rain will run away from, rather than towards, your caravan/awning is the easiest bet, but not always possible to do of course.
Awning carpets are 100z% waterproof but that doesnt mean they cannot get wet. Many sites will not permit groundsheets (thick plastic sheets) because although they stop water seeping up through them they also kill the grass they are on top of.
Basically a wet floor in an awning is something you have to learn to live with. Unless of course you are on a seasonal pitch, then you could lay down some pallets to lift your awning floor off te ground and away from any water.

I have never seen an awning groundsheet with raised edging, and the usual site preference for breathable negates the possible benefit. If your mudwalling is internal then carefully overlapping the groundsheet can help to reduce water running underneath and onto the sheet, however if the mudwalling is external it does help to run rainwater away from the base of the awning but not necessarily keep water from passing beneath onto the sheet . So don't thin k that there is a simple solution - in the old days of impermeable 'tarpaulin' style sheets we used to carry a sponge floor mop!

We use the easy mats rather than awning groundsheets.

Every now and then ALDI have a special on very similar interlocking mats. They come in packs of 4. We bought a couple of packs and use one pack in the caravan and the rest on the caravan floor which seems to getting a bit wet in the winter months, but now also the summer months! They are great on a seasonal site.

Depending on ground surface we use either a breathable carpet, or (another +1) interlocking mats or nothing - which actually is my preference on 'lawn' or 'decent surface' hardstanding.
