I'm looking for some decent awning lights. The one on the caravan is pretty poor, so I'm looking to fix some lighting to the awning poles. Does anyone have any recommendations. I have seen some LED ones that velcro onto the poles but not sure how effective they will be. Seems a shame to have all that space , but it's too dark to actually sit in, especially as the evenings are now drawing in.

I have used flourecent tubed mains powered leadlights in the past. You can get them from Aldi, Lidle and towsure for instance, for about ten quid. I recently bought a rechargable LED version from Aldi for 9-99. It has proven to be very economic to run and would last for about 4 nights of use at 3 hour per night.

The easyest way to mount it to the awning cross bars is via cable ties, which I can get 48 for a quid from any pound shop.

The benefit of the rechargable light is that there is no mains electric cable to have to deal with and as they come with a cigarette plug charger, you can even use them when wild camping (off mains hook up).

We used 2 lights for our 18ft x 10ft deep awning and that was more than adequate.

Wait until after Xmas and when they sell off xmas decorations buy an outdoor quality rope light. I used a 6m length and with it set in the permeantly on position lit the awning very well . It can be easily fastened up to the poles with cable ties. I paid around £12 for mine.

We use a mains light plugged in to the 3 pin socket built in to the locker box on the side of the van,it is just a bulb in a clip on holder held in place by cable ties, lights up the whole awning,I am thinking about using an inspection lamp as it has a hanging hook and a longer lead.

I have a 150 led tube light that clips to the awning rail approx 1mtr long,........But it all depend on how much bright light you want ?
We have changed the awning light bulb to a Led one with one of these adaptors that is sufficent for most things...

Thanks for all the tips guys. Like the re-chargeable idea as can charge it in the car too if we're off out anywhere. But then the rope light would look nice. Now at least I have some ideas to think out of the box. The ones designed for the awnings that velcro on are pretty expensive for what they are.

Sash,
I bought a 200 set of white light led lights - the same you would put on a large Christmas Tree. Strung them all over the Awning - Very pretty!
