Awning on hard pitch

Hi, our site for the Easter break insists on us pitching our awning on the concrete. While this sounds like a great idea i'm baffled as to how we would go about pitching the awning. Is there a kit available or is it a home made effort. Anyone else experienced this before?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Davy

My only answer to that is find an other site, sory mate I would most definately pass on by, at first it may sound fine but you must peg out an awning, there are no kit s that I have heard of in allmost40 years of camping.

Are you sure the hard standing will be concrete? It is more likely to be gravel or possibly concrete blocks with grass growing through. There is no way you will be able to put an awning up on genuine concrete!

I agree with Jim - if the hard standing really is concrete and covers what should be grass in my view, go somewhere else. Though rare some places do seem to go mad with the concrete and/or the agregate.

With modern breathable ground sheets the grass is not killed off.

Can you let me know what the site is so that I can make sure I never book it!

Simple answer - a jackhammer and quick setting cement. Alternatively - use rock pegs - available at most dealers. Get the long ones (8+")... trust me.

Davy. If, as you say, it is concrete, one solution is some strips of timber which you can lie on a turned-under mudwall. Then put whatever you can on top of the wood to add weight to hold it down in the wind - water carriers, cool boxes, perhaps locally brrowed breeze blocks etc. A few hooks in the timbers could fasten to mud-wall peg holes. I hope this helps. Peter T

Thanks for your help. I have checked with the site and it is indeed solid concrete. They said most people put a rope around their awning where the pegs go through and holds it secure enough. Sounds dodgy to me.Probably just forget awning. Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.
