Hi. I have just bought an awning but I don't have the number of brackets on the outer shell of my caravan.

So I bought 2 more brackets for delivery tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of how to screw them into the outer of my caravan? Do I need special screws or wallplugs?? I'm going away on Wed so flying blind so to speak lol

Hi. The awning is a Sunncamp prestige. It has 5 poles that attach to the caravan with little L shape hooks at the end of the poles. These slot into a small plastic mount that's screwed onto the caravan outer wall. These little mounts just have a small hole that the pole ends slot into.

I have 2 mounts at either end of the caravan and one in the centre. but my awning has 2 extra poles that attach.

I'm just a little wary about screwing anything into the outer wall and wondered if anyone had any advice. They are arriving with screws, so I new wall plugs as well?

I would never drill into caravan walls but searching web sites I have come across mention of Sunncamp awnings that need brackets fitting to older caravan but on newer vans pads(brackets) are fitted to the inside of the awning as I have on one of my awnings.
What year, make and model is you van ?

I agree. Donโ€™t go drilling into the side of the van. Most poled awnings have brackets/pads that fit onto the inner beading of the awning. ( not the beading that goes into the awning rail, but the narrower strip that runs parallel to it and ends up on the inside of the awning.) You attach the brackets/pads, tighten them and then hook the pole through. Seriously do not drill!! :eek:hmy:

I'm with FrintonMike on this one, under no circumstances would I drill into the side of the van, in fact I have never heard of it before, but it must happen as others have agreed!!!!

If you do have to fix the brackets to the side of the van go for a caravan sealant/adhesive such as sikoflex (others are available) .
Better still change the awning if at all feasible.

Hi.. My caravan is an old Monza.. 1991 maybe? Tbh it only cost me ยฃ200 last Feb and apart from me having to relaminate the floor everything else has been pretty cosmetic and I'm really proud of it now.
I'll head over to Caratech in Lincoln tomorrow and pick up some of that sealent/ adhesive.. See how I get on with that. The awning was only ยฃ50 for a full one so I'm not doing too bad :)

Is this the sort of thing you have to fit?

These are instead of the screw into the caravan wall, type if your awning has the bead to clip onto.

Shows how much things change! My first caravan and awning required the screw-in brackets which was common usage until I think Isabella introduced the fix-ons ?in the late 90s with the second bead on the edge of the awning to slide them into place. So front and back the brackets sat more or less horizontal and along the side wall vertical set against the edge of the awning rail. Sat on a gommet of clear or white silicone as well as being screwed. You can still buy these https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/173723130921 - or search 'awning pole suckers' on the same site as alternatives.
