Awning poles

I am considering buying a bradcot 960 awning with the 'easy fit'aluminium poles. Has anyone any experience of how strong they are in adverse weather conditions. Also is a storm strap a problem with aluminium poles?

DON'T DO IT!We got these poles with our new awning but they were rubbish. First time away (slight wind but not gale force) they kept slackening off. Marked the side of the 'van and bent the poles. Returned them to Bradcot who took three weeks to decide it wasn't our fault and replaced them with steel poles. They may be light but in my opinion they're just not strong enough. Hope this helps you to decide, Manda.

Well I'll be damned! We've used the "easy pole" system for four years and swear by it. We've never had a single problem with it and wouldn't have anything else. Perhaps, like everything else these days, the build quality has gone down and it's not as good now as it was.

Hi,

Before buying our Bradcot Classic (960) I spoke to Bradcot about the easy-up system and they suggested that the were not as strong as steel poles. As we needed (wanted!) light poles, we went for fibreglass and have not regretted it.

As far as storm straps are concerned, Bradcot have a notice in their packaging expressely forbidding the use of storm straps. They reckon their system of tying down the awning is good enough, and if the wind is that bad, you shouldn't have the awning up anyway! We have survived so far without tie downs.

First trip out with van and awning, it collapsed and the poles bent. We rang Bradcot who asked us to send them back and within 48 hours we had a new set delivered under their guarantee system. We discovered the reason for the failure was due to collection of water on the roof because we were new and hadn't put it up properly. No problems since (touch wood) and we couldn't praise Bradcot enough for their efficient handling of the problem.

We have the full size and porch and both with the ali-pole set up. I had no problems with strong winds with mine( no slacking, no bending etc,etc).Apparently Bradcot now say you can use a tie-down strap which goes over the poles inside the awning itself.

We had the aluminium easy fit poles on our previous Bradcot awning. I thought they were o.k. but a bit of a gimmick. We changed our van last year and bought a new 990 'Classic'. The dealer actually tried to sell us steel poles because he considered aluminium wasn't particularly strong enough for awnings over 900. In the end I decided to go for fibreglass. They are expensive but by far the besr option if your budget will stretch that far. By the way there was no mention of fibreglass by the dealer, it was soley my decision.

Well how do I start, first time in france, with our elddis superstorm. strong winds tied the awning down tight, went out!!!!!!!!!! came bacK, hey presto!! most of awning poles completely snapped and collapsed.This has now damaged the side of our van. completely terrified the kids as in the end the whole awning collapsed and ripped and we had to get our neighbours to help dismantle what was left of the awning.We didn't have a bradcot ours was dorema but still easy fit ally poles. i would suggest fibreglass as the awnings that didn't collapse around us all had these. We have previously had problems with the poles slackening off with the slightest of a breeze. I will not get these next time, I will try fibreglass. After our disaster with the awning in concarneau,and spending 10 days awning less, when we disembarked the ferry in dover, on the exit ramp a german lorry decided to miss a gear and reverse full speed into us. Luckily we were in a 4x4 and had a bull bar which saved us, 2 babies and 1 child. back to the poles a deffinate no, no!!!!!!!!!
