Awning Rail beading.

Hi guys, I'm about to remove and re-seal my awning rails etc.

I've had a quick look tonight at how to get the white beading covering the screws out and put it back in again. Getting it out is easy enough, but how do you get it back in? It doesn't look like I can slide it round, it looks to me like I'll have to ease it in with a screwdriver, which will take forever!!

Any tips, or do I just need to learn patience?

Patience is good! But try a small blunt screw driver or braddle at an angle in the rail groove guiding the plastic back in. I managed this quite well with window seals. Extremely fiddely though.

When you come to replace the beading a good tip is to have a washing up bowl of warm water handy.

Soak the beading in the water to warm it up so that it becomes more pliable and as you stretch it to ease it back into the rail dry it with a cloth.

Keep the remainder of the beading in the water so that it stays warm

You used to be able tobuy a tool for putting it in.It is the same as the one that was used for fitting widscreens on cars when they went into a rubber gasket and then the beading fitted to hold it tight.Like on minis.It had a handle with a wire that was diamond shaped with a little roller that pressed it in.

Having looked in my old Mini workshop manual the tool was part no 18G 468 and adaptor 468A ,whether you can find one of these I am not sure they must exist as there are still many cars around that have windscreens fitted that way.

Thanks guys. The warm water trick sounds good.

Didn't know they had a tool for putting Mini windscreens in. I used a strong piece of string and washing up liquid.!
