awning rail damage

my awning rail has been damaged I can now only with a mighty struggle pull it through .The damage is near the end of the rail only about 2cm is is pushed in on itself .As its a soft alloy I am cautious on how to repair, is there a tool for the job?
 
Ian, I had the very same problem which I solved by finding a piece of hardwood and shaping the end into a thin wedge. I gently prised to closed gap open without any damage to the rail. Good luck with your repair.
