Awning Size - Advice needed

(bear with me on this one!!!)

I changed vans last year but didn't get around to checking if my main full awning was the right size.

Anyway as we're away in a couple of weeks decided today was the day I checked if it fitted OK.

Well it sort of does but I'm a bit confused about the size. My awning is 970cm (I've actually mearued it) my new van is listed as awning size 995.

Yet having just actually tried it on the van ideally it could be 2-4inchs shorter , which would make it about a 950-960cm

Granted I didn't full put the awning up so maybe when properly erected it will all stack up OK. But having opted to not buy a new one until I was sure had I gone for a 995cm awaning this would have been way too big.

Am I missing something ?

HI! rogerP remember when you thread your awning through the rail you could have about 6inches of skirt left at each end you might only have 2 inches left it allows for other sizes between for example 950cm to 999cm will fit 20 sizes of vans plus it is also for if your van is pitched on a sloping site ie left to right slope the right wheel might be 3/5 inches higher than the left so go back and try it again and see what you have left at each end left from the ground .hope you understand my post if not reply and will try to corect what you don,t understand.cheers Duggie

My awning is a Eurovent Solaria and I took the measurement to the base of the awning excluding the skirt.

It will be just OK but puzzled why at 970 thats the case when , if I'd not checked , I could have purchased one for a 995 measurement and been way too big.

I'm away next week so will see what happnes when its up properly got a feeling that when pegged out on the frame it will be alright

My only concearn is that the eyelet strap , which will be nearest the van , will have to be at its shortest length and this still might not be short enough to peg out properly. Hence my initial belief I need a couple of inches shorter.

Alternatively if I could reposition the eyelet strap then problem solved

I'll see how it goes.

RodgerP if you find that your awning Is to small you could get it altered. A much cheaper alternative to buying a new awning.

Roger

I found out the hard way years ago.

I assume all your experiments have been carrried on perfectly level ground?

Once you find youself on a slope you'll be glad of the extra inches.
