Hi as anyone had a bad experience from an awnings company. Bought a Vision XL lightweight porch from them 2 weeks ago through an add in Practical Caravan.Used first time at National rally instructions said fly screens fitted to side doors ,even picture in P/C looks like screens fitted but mine had non.Safety ribbon used to hold centre roof pole in place missing, only one guy rope fitted luckely was in a place where i could buy some replacements.Just come off phone ater trying all last week to get a refund or replacement from them (spoke to managing directore) after getting nowhere with staff .Point blank refused to refund or exchange saying fly screens not on this awning and never were (even though instructions say they are)said it is a missprint, offered to send a guy rope ,no comment on safety ribbon that holds up roof pole .Never delt with this company before and wont be in the future caravaned 35years dealt with some good companys will keep well awawy from this one ANY ADDVICE WOULD BE GRATEFULL.

You firstly must try to gather any advertising material, or online shots that show a picture of the awning that you have purchased. Then check the small print of the advert and the product code down to the last / . or anything like that. Also check your instructions to see if they are generic for maybe 2 or 3 different models.

If after this you are still convinced you can present your case to the company in writting ( so much better as you can keep a cooler head ) giving them 14 days to respond. If they do not then take you case file to your local trading standards office and get them to have a look at it for you.

Tips; Don't just look for what you want to see but study what it was you were being sold and what you recieved. When putting pen to paper be very careful about accusations of mis selling etc and concentrate on the fact that a mistake may have been made.

Lastly

Good Luck

Thanks for that we had been looking at simular awnings from sunncamp and they had fly screens the P/C picture seems to show fly screens .Yes the instructions do specify that the Vision XL the awning i have quote from instructions.

SIDE ENTRANCE VISION XL

The side entrances are duel skinned with one mesh (fly screen)and one solid. One or both can be rolled back and retained by a set of loops and toggles.

This is how it is in the instructions but he says its a missprint wonder how many times that excuse has been used.

Hiya,

You may be interested in looking at the Consumer Direct Website. I have used them in the past and have been extremely impressed when we had trouble with a 3 piece suite we bought. They even send you out the template letters to edit to your particular circumstances for onward transmission to the retailer. These letters actually state your legal rights as a consumer and refer to certain sections of relevant Acts, makes it look like you know your rights(!) Unfortunately you have to ring an 0845 number but I have found them extremely helpful. We have also used the Caravan Club legal advice service for advice on our new caravan's shortcomings, don't know if they can advise on the situation with awnings or point you in the right direction.

As x11 says its important to be precise when putting things in writing. Hope this helps, thanks for posting this warning.

Val.
