Awnings We all use them but how????

Hi All

Bit of a strange one, after I have had the "pleasure" putting my awning up, I start to peg it down, now, here is the question:-

Why do some people peg them down from the inside, leaving the mud flap on the outside, and others peg them down on the outside, then tucking the mudflap underneath the groundsheet/carpet on th inside?

what is the difference?

I only use a lightweight porch awning but the main pegs which support it go on the inside to help to retain it's shape.

The 'mud' flaps are actually to allow rain (or snow!) to run off the awning away from the groundsheet which is why they should go outside but many don't bother and tuck them under.

If there is not much wind and it's dry I just spread the flaps outside the awning without pegging them down, it saves time on a weekend rally but in the recent snow the inside of my porch awning remained dry because the flaps were pegged outside.

You don't normally have a choice as to whether the mud wall goes inside or outside the pegs. It's down to how the manufacturer designed the attachment of the mud wall. I understand however that some designs have 2 mud walls, one inside the pegs and one outside.

With our awning there is no choice its 'flaps in' - otherwise you wouldn't be able to peg it down (does have the advantage that with the groundsheet laid on top of the flaps the awning is both wind proof and also 'Dog proof').

quite right it depends on the awning we have two, a full size dorema (flaps in) and a small porchlite plus "similar to the sunncamp" (flaps out).
