We have a centre for weighing lorries which gives seperate/combined axle weights. Is this combined axle weight the kerb weight of the car or do I need to find a "proper" weighbridge? Also appreciate feedback on towing an Abbey Aventura "Freestyle" 400 Thanks and Happy New Year to all Readers!

Hello Ethel, Jims advice is basically sound, but he makes one error which cold be significant with some cars. The car manufacture is now required to state the Maximum Permited Loaded Trailer Mass (Weight). This figure is usually greater than the 85% that jim details, but on some cars it is less. So check with the car manufacture and ensure the caravan does not exceed this figure.
Slight correction to John L's response, too. The car manufacturers do not specify the maximum permitted loaded trailer mass but the maximum permitted towable mass. The difference between the 2 definitions is that the towable mass is, in effect, the total axle load of the trailer and not its total weight, i.e. the towable mass does not include the noseweight (this is treated as part of the payload of the towing vehicle).
