has anyone out there had any problems with the above, our series 5 louisiana had to have replacement elements because they kept blowing out the van and our new series 6 wyoming has had the same problem, after the first 6 weeks on the latest van the elements packed up, because we were in spain we went onto gas at additional expense, had it repaired under warranty just before we left the Uk again, and lo and behold 6 weeks later we are back in square one. there are loads of other bailey caravan people here with similar problems, anyone else out there? whilst we appreciate we can get it sorted out, its hastle, time consuming and not even possible if you are on tour, lucky for us we are here for some time, feedback would be appreciated.

Sian, the usual cause of the elements failing is not making absolutely certain that the tank is full before switching on the mains power.

However, assuming that you already know this and have taken the precaution of making sure the mains circuit breaker is set to OFF until you have filled the water system, then the only other explanation can be the wiring from the consumer unit to the heater, somewhere along that route, which is a direct run with nothing else in line with the heater.

The last possibility is a power surge, but that would probably have affected some of the other appliances as well, so not really in the running.

I have a Series 5 Arizona and have not experienced any problem with the elements in the Water Heater.

Switching on the Water Heater is always the last thing to happen when setting up on site and is turned off after the last use of wash room on the last day on site but before the final washing up to give a chance for the drained water to be a bit cooler.

Hi Sian

The laws of probability point to you as the user as the most likely cause of these multiple failures across two caravans.

Damian and Alun sum it up perfectly.

Never ever turn on the electric water heater unless you are certain it is full, ie bled through. Equally turn it off as Alun says before you drain it down.

Might just be worth you reading the Truma instructions that come with the Wyoming to refresh your memory.

Cheers

It would have to be pretty big and long duration power surge to adversely affect what is a resistive element!
