I have a 2004 Bailey Senator Vermont, no stress cracks last time i washed it.

But it has never had a awning fitted. Considering how i see some people struggling to get them run though the awning rail, and the stress put on the entire rail when it is windy.

Could this be causing some of the failures?

I understand that self tapping through the panel fixing holes is the reason for some failures, and perhaps poor manufacturing.

Just a thought.

Ray,

I had my Senator 5 van serviced 3 days ago and asked about panel cracks whilst observing the damp test procedure.

The technician replied with Bailey it was not an issue except for Ranger model.

The factor affecting this was the three front windows as opposed to only one large front window in the front panel.

However I am sure we shall now see others posting to say this is not correct, I will be interested to see what responses arrive....

I have a Bailey Pageant 2005 model. Cracks appeared in both front and rear panel and both had to be replaced. The term 'stress cracks' is a bit misleading. The apparent cause is screwing the panels to the frame without drilling a pilot hole first and/or overtightening the screws. Over time the stress of towing cuases the crack to spread and can lead to damp.

This is not resigned just to Bailey, my Abbey vogue had the same cracks around the awning channel and has had to have the rear pannel replaced. I have part ex it for a new van (the dealer knew all about it and is having the replacement done)
