Hi, i'm interested in buying one of these vans. I'm relatively new to caravanning so any comments would be appreciated. Also, would this van be suitable for all year use?

Hi John
We bought one of these in November after seeing the review in the September PC magazine and getting useful comments from this forum.
We've been using the van at the weekends mainly since mid-December and love it. The storage is in very different places from our old van and that took a bit of getting used to - I once lost the peppermill for a week! The fixed bed is very comfortable but a little high. The Status omnidirectional aerial is not as good as we'd like so we've added a directional one (B+Q's cheapest) on a pole. Our only other niggle is that the table is big enough for two but would be cramped for four to eat at.
We liked the fairly low tow weight as we don't want to change our car for a few years yet and the length and width mean that we can store it under our car port when it's not in use.
As you will have gathered it is OK for winter use, the overnight setting on the 230v heating is enough to keep the chill off. It's been as low as -11 some weekends lately and we've been cosy.

We are on our second Bailey Ranger - being 500/5 and our neighbour has the 4 berth version - 510/4. We are both very pleased with our vans regarding comfort, build quality and weight. So far we have had no faults in either of our vans or the neighbour in his van. If it suits your requirements I am sure you will enjoy the van.
We are just trading in our 2007 460/4.
The 'van itself has been perfect we just didn't get on too well with the layout, finding the short front dinette not very comfy for lounging and the fixed bed being a waste of space, though very comfy.
This was our 4th Ranger, and like all the others towed very well and was well built. We've stuck with Bailey for our new 'van, we are waiting to collect our 2008 Pageant Majestic.

The main reason for buying our 460/4 was the layout, we used to have a pageant with the full width shower room.My wife likes to layin in the mornings, where i am a early riser, which the dog appreciates as i take her for her early morning walk at 6 oclock in the morning.
No where to sit for a cuppa whilst the wife was sleeping, making up the bed in the morning became a pain, started to look around for a fixed bed model,was delighted when bailey produced this model as the layout suited us with the bed at the back, the wife is now able to sleep in whilst the seats at the front ideal for my morning cuppa.
There are good and bad points start with the good:-
We love the large front window you get uninterupted views looking out.
The Clear opening roof top gives you plenty of light within the dining cooking area.
The hot/cold blower gives you a good supply of hot or cold air.
Nice large fridge.
Very comfy fixed bed .
The hot/cold mixer taps work very well with the fine spray.
Lighting is excellent spot lights everywhere .
Towing weight under 1200kg allows you to tow with a medium sized car(Not at thirsty 4x4) we have a vectra estate 2.2 dti which pulls the van with ease.
Bad Points:-
The shower toilet room is quite small and slim in width, never used the shower .
The Tv compartment is quite high, we found that trying to look at the telly from the seating area gave us both neck aches, we solved the problem by buying two very large cushions, (Really Big)which we prop ourselves up and watch the telly whilst laying on the bed .We use to lay on our seats in the pageant to watch the tv so not much difference.
The tv ariel never found one that worked properly, always use our extended mast .
We live in Essex this will be our second year of owning the van
been up to Scotland drove through the very windy and torrential rain when we passed Leeds going north found the van very stable, despite driving through loads of heavy spray
The van needed a complete front wash,when we arrived at our stopover Thirsk racecourse.

The aerial in our 460/4 worked really well all over Scotland, the first of the omni directional Status aerials that has ever worked for us! (And we have had 3 prior to this one). Will be interested to see if the directional aerial in our new Pageant is any better. Would agree that the TV position in the 460/4 is not great for comfy viewing.
Also I found our 460/4 quite nose light compared to our previous Rangers and needed some positive front loading to get the noseweight up to 75Kg.

Hi - we bought the 470/4 in Feb 2007 and think the caravan is fab. It was in storage over Christmas but just had it out again at weekend - lovely and warm blown air heating works a treat. We shoppped around for at least 12 months prior to buying our van and still 12 months on from buying it think we made the right choice.

Thanks to all for your comments. Like John we looked at the Bailey and compared it to other vans on the market. My wife and I have just bought our new 460/4 series 5 and after searching like yourself we thought this is the one for us..what a lovely van at the right price, my last one was a 1991 Swift so I comprehend what you mean about the heating...well done B.O.B.

There is nothing at present on the market that comes close.
