Bailey Ranger 470/4

Hello all,

After a year struggling to fit our family in our Bailey Beachcomber 350/2 (2 berth), we have taken the plunge and bought a 2004 Bailey Ranger 470/4. The dealer had it on his forecourt for £7,995 but after initial haggling he dropped the price to £7150. further haggling reduced it to £7,000 cash. I did try haggling again but he wasnt having any of it lol.

We chose a Bailey purely on the build quality of our old beachcomber. Does anybody else here own or have comments on this model?

Anyway, picking it up Friday 31st Aug and straight to Tredegar House CC Site for a weekend.....Dont know who's most excited, Me and the Missus or the Kids!

We had a Ranger 470/4 for a couple of years and totaly loved the caravan, we only changed it as our boys outgrew the space available and now we have a Ranger 550/6.

Hi Danny,

We looked at a 6 berth Ranger. It was a cracking van with fixed bunks. Unfortunately it was a little outside our budget both price and weight. Lovely though...

Anything i need to look out for problem wise with the rangers?

Keep an eye on the sealant both inside and out. I found on our Ranger 470/4 that the bead is far too thin and easily breaks down.

This was the case on the shower cubicle wall and tray, and on the awning rails at the front of the van.

Thanks for that Martin, I did notice the shower sealant looked a little flimsy, Think i might sort that out before we use the shower.

Does anybody know if the Water ingress warranty is transferable? The Caravan is a 2004 model so does that make it a series 4?

I'm hoping they are pretty good aswell as i've just puyt a deposit down on a 1997 one from my local dealers.

We had a 2003 bailey ranger 2 berth untill about 6 weeks ago and now have a 2003 Bailey paegent 4 Berth and we love it, we have had other vans in the past Eldis & Sterling and find the Baileys much better.

We had a 1998 470/4 and loved the bathroom / shower in it. It is better built than out 2004 Lunar 640 Freelander.

I don't believe that the warranty will be transferable. I enquired about our 2005 Ranger just after we bought it last year and was told by Bailey that it wasn't possible.

I stand to be corrected, but I think that Bailey made the warranty transferable at the end of last year.

Thanks for that Martin. I thought that would be the case. Its a bit of a cop-out though dont you think? Still, fingers crossed i wont have any problems.

Andrew, as Martin says, the waranty isn't transferable on vans built prior to September last year.

One thing to check, is the front panel where it joines the roof.

Get a pair of steps out and check that there are no cracks in the front panel, radiating from the end screws of the aluminium front rail on each side. This rail covers the joint to the panel and roof. My 2005 510/4 had to have a new front panel with this problem. Same panel is used on the 470/4 so its worth checking.
