noticed having read a few threads the baileys seem to have a problem with cracking in the corner of windows and the avondales have a problem with bodywork cracking !!!!!

when we looked at the weekend at many many caravans in hope to buy one soon we compared the baileys against the avondales and found the avondales seem to be better quality within, the bailey rangers seem to be very basic inside with no window in bathroom or in main door.

please reply with your thoughts on this!!!!!!!

Hi c,

Can't comment on the Avondale but we bought a Bailey Ranger 540/6 this easter and have had a few trips and we've been really pleased with it. We love it in fact! Obviously it's a new van so nothing has cracked etc yet but we have been impressed by the quality of what is seen as a budget range. I've never found it a problem that there's no window in the main door (in fact can't say I've ever seen a van with one!) as so far we've always had the top of our 'stable' door open during the day and it's actually a really bright and airy van inside. I suppose it's all personal preference at the end of the day! Happy van shopping! :0)

Hi c

I went through masses of layouts and makes earlier in the year.

Settled on the Bailey Pageant Series 6 Bordeaux in the end. Yes I knew the Series 7 was due out but actually liked the Series 6 for our tastes.

Been away twice and just going for the third time and been very impressed with the quality of build. I have not found a single item that is not up to scratch. Sorry one item - the firmness of the matress on the fixed bed - a bit firm - but have put a memory foam topper on it and now snug as a bug etc.

Hi Alan,

We have the series 5 Ranger 460/4 simular to the series 6 Bordeaux with the certain extras, The only problem we have is that the position of the telly high up makes it impossable to use the lcd telly, but the 15"analog telly works okay.

The series 7 Bordeaux the position of the tv the width has been reduced no turntable so that you can only fit a lcd telly,

Progress seems be going backwards.

Hi Royston

Yes I agree with you I liked the TV cabinet idea but the turntable was rubbish and as you say could not "tilt it".

I re-inforced the cabinet support with a aluminium insert and then screwed a Avtex 17" LCD TV mount with swivel arm from Argos (cat No. 534/5673) to this and mounted the TV onto it permanently.

I can swing, tilt and turn it for both lounge and bed viewing and has stopped me getting a stiff neck!!

I know some bright spark will now say that this is not recommended but I have not experienced any problems, the TV cabinet is directly above the wheels - and it is a free country and my risk so I am happy with it.
