HI,

I am seriously considering buying a 2007 Bailey Senator Arizona for £12,000 - is there anyone out there who can say whether this is a good price or not and what problems they have encountered with the van. I am having to change cars, so would be interested to know what make of car (economical of course, cannot consider a 4 X 4) would tow the van safely.

Hi Patsy,

Diffiuclt to say if that is good or not. We have just recently bought our first caravan and we went for a new Peagent Champagane. We did however consider a brand new 2008 Senator Arizona and were offered that for

The Arizona in the 2007 brochure weighs 1500kg as well with a mass in running order of 1248kg

We have the Oklahoma (same weight) and tow with a Nissan X Trail which although a 4X4 takes up less room on the road than a Mondeo and does 36mpg week in week out solo and 24mpg towing

Its also got great traction on wet fields !!

Hi Patsy

if no part/ex, you should get a better deal. If this is your first van, ask for extra kit to be thrown in (hitchlocks, aquaroll etc). Have a look at the stock they have - they will want to shift metal before 2008 models come in. Like many folks, we also tow with an X-Trail diesel, 136 bhp 2.2 dCI Sport (kerb weight approx 1640 kg on local weighbridge, 100kg noseweight). We get 40 mpg solo, 26-27 mpg towing Bailey Senator Indiana at around 1400-1450kg loaded. New X-Trail out in Sept, so plenty of deals on outgoing model. Forget the 2 litre Petrol (gutless) as well as the earlier 112 bhp diesel dI version.

Good luck !

Ann

We have had 3 XTs and the first 112bhp was OK

I had had the previous 2 cars chipped for more power but felt that the XT @ 112bhp didn't need it.

So Nissan upped the power to 136bhp themselves !!

We tow our 2007 Arizona with a Volvo V70 D5 @ around 30 mpg towing and 50+ on a run. Well pleased with the van appart from problems with poor water quality, it is now back at the Bailey factory for the second time having another complete new water system fitted, but cant praise Bailey after care enough, they have been 1st class in there approach to our problems, and as a gesture of goodwill for all the inconvenience suffered they are retro fitting the AL-KO ATC system to our van. I must say that we do not like the series 6 Arizona as they have put a biger centre cuboard in to accomodate the 17" flat screen TV, but at the cost of making the bathroom a lot smaller. If there is anything else you would like to know about the Arizona, please feel free to ask.

Hi Patsy,

We also have the Oklahoma but the whole range of Senator's are great vans. When we first got the van we towed it with an Accord Tourer which had came out at around a 94% match, the outfit was fine with no stability problems. One thing to bear in mind though is that the Senator's in general tend to have a heavy noseweight. When we had the Accord it was a real pain to get the weight down to the 75kg which was the cars hitch limit. Maybe worth looking at vehicles like the XT or CRV which have 100kg hitch limit and have similar economy figures to most large hatchbacks or estates.

Still waiting for the return of our Arizona, been at the Bailey factory for almost a month now, it's like having your arm chopped off, suffering from bad withdrawal symptoms!!!

Hi,

We have just seen the above message and wondered what problems you are having with your new Senator. We have a 2007 Series 6 Senator Indiana with quite a few problems, including the build quality, and wondered if our problems were the same as yours?!?!

Thanks,
