Bailey Pegasus front and rear panel seal.

Hi,

I have a Bailey Cartagena 2017, similarly with these "fenders" front and back between panel and main body.
They do not look great and needs replacing
I am concerned that water is able to penetrate and get inside the van.
If they are cosmetic why have them?
Could the gap be filled with a good waterproof sealer like SIKA.
Showed photos to very good local repair shop and he tells me panels must come off to reseal.
Any advice please?

I am having difficulty identifying the Seal or Feneder you are trying to describe. Can you post a photo so we can be certain?

However if your "good" local repair shop and he tells me panels must come off to reseal. That is probably the case.

I did a Bailey Pegasus Brindisi last year ,by applying some Silaflex 522(white) after thoroughly cleaning and degreasing it. to help smooth it out I spray with brake cleaner (ether based) . went back this year and still looks good

I have just noticed you have posted the same question in another thread. This becomes very confusing and its best to keep it all in one place

Id suggest no one else posts in this thread and uses the one in the general topics.

Mods Edit. Thanks Have tidied it up into one new thread (I hope 🤞)

Different OP to the other posted thread which is two years old, and didn’t come to a conclusion.

The fenders are not for weather proofing. Water will get behind them and it shouldn’t be a problem. They are cosmetic. But also offer a cheap fix if they are damaged say by stone chips. I replaced a front corner fender on my Valencia, in a few minutes for £110. A repair to the caravan front would have been far more.

I didn't remove the origonal strips on the one I did, just filled in the gaps with sikaflex . the other thing is to look underneath at the corners , you may find the external plywood is wet. introducing a gap between the outer cover and the lower face of the floor will allow water to drain freely and not rest against the floor frame and should allow the corners to dry out , then they can be sealed with thompsons water seal.

The seals on the earlier Baileys can be bought from Bailey but the don’t make a great deal of difference as they are just cosmetic ,I had to take the front panel off our pursuit to repair some minor damage and the seals were brittle, but behind the panel is the front panel in Alutech gloss white , when I ordered the replacement seal from Prima it was about £15 ,but they sent me a full caravan corner section that was about £450 work by mistake the Evri driver was hysterical , Prima were quick to collect it when informed

Those panels are purely cosmetic. Water can, and does, run down between them and the main panel, tge caravan is designed that way.
Seal the gap if you wish to, but there really is absolutely no need/point in doing so.

hi I also

Yes good advice as you have to take the panel off to fit the replacement seal, and on the Pursuit they glue the panel onto tow oblong plywood spacers where the handles mount , it needs serious effort and an industrial glue dissolving chemical to un bond them or you will wreck the very expensive panel trying to free them off

I did mine last weekend on my Pegasus GT65
Pretty easy, the "seal" is available from Bailey - well Premier leisure or whatever they call the spares department.
Once I'd worked it out it was fairly easy. for the front I used a nylon kitchen utensil to pry the plastic faring away from the body of the caravan and fit the seal.
The rear was a little easier, behind a couple of decals lie self tapping screws, so pry off the decal, undo the screws and the panel can be moved outward a good few inches to fit the seal.

Yes I know it's not really a seal as it does not stop any water/dirt ingress but after a full machine polish , new seals front and rear and new round dot things on the wheel arches it looks more like a 2 year old van than an 11 year old one

Hi I don’t know if your front handles for dragging / pulling the caravan about are high up but they were on the Pursuit so I took the panels off rather than risk them being brittle and shattering which with my luck it would have happened, it was the same as this picture the Jive is a Pursuit 2
