Bailey Pegasus front and rear panel seal.

Hi,

I have a Bailey Cartagena 2017, similarly with these "fenders" front and back between panel and main body.
They do not look great and needs replacing
I am concerned that water is able to penetrate and get inside the van.
If they are cosmetic why have them?
Could the gap be filled with a good waterproof sealer like SIKA.
Showed photos to very good local repair shop and he tells me panels must come off to reseal.
Any advice please?

I am having difficulty identifying the Seal or Feneder you are trying to describe. Can you post a photo so we can be certain?

However if your "good" local repair shop and he tells me panels must come off to reseal. That is probably the case.

I did a Bailey Pegasus Brindisi last year ,by applying some Silaflex 522(white) after thoroughly cleaning and degreasing it. to help smooth it out I spray with brake cleaner (ether based) . went back this year and still looks good

Here is a picture of the fender above the rear panel. I'm thinking of just removing and using Sikaflex to seal?

The fenders are not for weather proofing. Water will get behind them and it shouldn’t be a problem. They are cosmetic. But also offer a cheap fix if they are damaged say by stone chips. I replaced a front corner fender on my Valencia, in a few minutes for £110. A repair to the caravan front would have been far more.

I didn't remove the origonal strips on the one I did, just filled in the gaps with sikaflex . the other thing is to look underneath at the corners , you may find the external plywood is wet. introducing a gap between the outer cover and the lower face of the floor will allow water to drain freely and not rest against the floor frame and should allow the corners to dry out , then they can be sealed with thompsons water seal.

The seals on the earlier Baileys can be bought from Bailey but the don’t make a great deal of difference as they are just cosmetic ,I had to take the front panel off our pursuit to repair some minor damage and the seals were brittle, but behind the panel is the front panel in Alutech gloss white , when I ordered the replacement seal from Prima it was about £15 ,but they sent me a full caravan corner section that was about £450 work by mistake the Evri driver was hysterical , Prima were quick to collect it when informed

Those panels are purely cosmetic. Water can, and does, run down between them and the main panel, tge caravan is designed that way.
Seal the gap if you wish to, but there really is absolutely no need/point in doing so.

Yes good advice as you have to take the panel off to fit the replacement seal, and on the Pursuit they glue the panel onto tow oblong plywood spacers where the handles mount , it needs serious effort and an industrial glue dissolving chemical to un bond them or you will wreck the very expensive panel trying to free them off
