Hi Billy, forgot one small area of criticism and that is with the main table, great table but it so heavy! So much so that it has come out and now resides in the garage, we find the pull out table on the chest of drawers more than adequate for the two of us. What TV was yours supplied with? Ours came with a 15" avtex, and I must say the picture quality is excellent, we have also had a maxview crank up sat dish put on the roof to take care of those rainy days when you cant get out!!!! Well that's my excuse to the boss.

Collected our California this morning. What a cracker, usual very good handover from our dealer (Dyce) where the van was hooked up completely so that we could check everything including road lights. Not a speck of dust anywhere nor any oozes of mastic. We opted for the alternate upholstery and are very pleased with it, looks good and the carpet is that extra wee bit thicker. We are very happy with the quality of finish of the van as a whole obviously some of it only time will tell but it certainly seems well screwed together and finished. Towed the almost 60 miles home with not a problem.

So, just have to load everything back in the van now - joys of deciding what goes where, certainly plenty of storage to choose from. Hoping to go away for a few days in June to try it out.

So - one happy Bailey customer.

Oh and just to reinforce the "good dealer" aspect - our Sterling had a some rear end damage (done 3 minutes after the deal was done for the Senator and on our dealer's forecourt) which they are still waiting for parts to come from Swift to repair - did not make any difference to the deal whatsoever now that is service.

Hi all

Just back from 2nd outing with our California 150mile round trip to Essex .We had 3 nights on a rally the only other thing i have found is the front dinet seats are starting to squeak when you sit down or move seems to be the hardwood slats but apart from that everthing fine .It seems to grow on us more each time we use it.

We're planning to have our first trip away the weekend after next - can't wait. Every time we go inside we find something else that we like about the van. Isn't it lovely to have made a good choice!!!!!

Hi all. I am new to this forum but really keen to hear others experiences about their new van. Have had our California for 2 weeks now and had one weekend away- extremely pleased with the layout and finish/quality (this is our first Bailey after 2 good Elddis vans). We can't get over how spacious the van feels compared with our odyssey 505 (L shaped lounge). Definitely no regrets.

Anyway just found a few points that I wanted to check with others.

1. When you turn the master power switch on, an LED/bulb lights up the voltage display dial- this remains on all the time (while the master switch is on) and will surely reduce the life expectancy of the bulb/LED. Is it meant to stay on all the time?

2. We have no gas locker light fitted yet there is a switch on the control panel for one. I know Bailey can change the spec but didn't think they would remove a feature completely.

Hi Al

Had my California since March appart from a few nigles we very happy with it now.Funny but we on our third Baily Senatore all fitted with gas locker light switches but still not found any lights.Dont know why that stays on as need power for lights at night but bulb is easy to get to from radio cupboard so hopefully not expensive if does burn out.Tell me have Baily fitted 12volt plugs in the newer vans as sent kelly watts a list of faults on mine wondered if any been put right.

Hi Billy- thanks for answering the questions. I'm not overly fussed about the gas locker light but just thought it might be something they forgot about- they obviously forgot everbodies!! The bulb staying on at the control panel is fine as well, just wanted to make sure it wasn't wired incorrectly.

There are no 12V sockets unfortunately. I am going to halfords to get a 12V multi adapter to plug in to the 12V socket behind the TV (the cigarette lighter type). This can then sit in the small shelf next to the TV for our satellite receiver. This is the only 12V item we tend to use so that should be adequate and saves modifying the van in any way.

Hi Al

Can you explain the 12volt socket behind the tv as this is something i could use and what kind of multi adapter would you need.

The 12V power adapter fitted in the van for the TV does not plug straight in to the new Avtex TV (not sure if this is the TV that came with yours or not?). The TV comes with an adapter (car cigarette lighter type) that converts the socket to one that fits the TV.

Using one of the many adpaters available from Halfords (or Maplin), I can split the power cable for up to 3/4 additional appliances- see the link below or go on the Halfords website and search for 12V multi socket. Hope this helps.

Hi Al

Sounds like Bailey have changed the tv ours has a permanent lead 5 pin i believe that fits direct into tv.So out of turable wall panel there is 5 wires antena ,3 av audio and vidio male jack plugs, and the power cable with a 5 pin din plug.Thats there idea of giving you a 12 volt socket i reckon on mine i have no way of plugging in any thing else without fixing in a permanent female 12volt socket 2 pin type.

If you look inside your gas locker on the front lining the light is fitted into the top of it, very small LED type - we took some time to find it on our van too.

Thanks Janet, found the light last night having traced some cabling on the underside of the van. It is so obvious- I don't know how I missed it!! I think I expected an obvious bulb hanging inside the locker.

Billy, it sounds like they have changed the TV- I don't know if you can buy some sort of conversion cable to allow you to split the tv power. I know they have also changed the radio/cd/dvd player from some of the earlier senators.

Hi Al,

We take delivery on Saturday morning, having traded in a S6 Burgundy, So you have the Avtec 17" T.V. Do the DVDs load into the the back of the unit! Has it got Freeview and could you give a little more detail about the Stereo head unit and the 12v supply to the T.V please. I have been thinking how to hard wire the Sat system, which I also did with great success in the S6 Burgundy (much to my amazement).

Any info would be received with much empathy!

Many Thanks

Von Ryan

Hi Von Ryan,

Its actually the 15" Avtex 150T that comes with the van- I think the 17" would be too big for the space it has to fit in to. The van is already wired with satellite cable from the signal booster box- this means you only need to get some satellite cable from the exteranl 240V supply socket/case up to the radio cupboard (there is even trunking already installed so this is a failry easy job). Your DVDs go in the Veba radio/cd player so no DVD slot on TV. The TV has freeview, teletext and 2 HDMI slots (although the TV is not HD ready). Overall the TV and radio/cd/dvd player are pretty good.

Hope this helps.

Hi Al

Thanks for the info,

I will have a good look when we get the van. I have plenty of CT100 Sat cable and various F connectors to do the job. I was thinking a putting the Sat box close to the T.V and as you said run a feed from the mains compartment, which is what I did on the Burgundy. Have you had a centre front chest fitted or have you stayed with the wrap round seating. Also Veba stereo, I have not come across these before and I deal with students in the motor industry.

Thanks Von Ryan

Hi Al

After a little research I have found out that Veba are Radiomobile, now thats a name I do know and I used to have one of there Super 8, Eight track players in my Old Rover P6, Happy days. In fact I still think its still in the loft with various 8 track cartridges.

Our sat box is fitted on top of the radio - wired in to the system there too. Not quite sure how as our dealer did it when fitting the sat dome but very neat - if sat is switched on the TV takes that signal, if it isn't then it takes the signal from the aerial. Seems as very good set up, love the fact there are no wires or "boxes" laying around.

Hi Folks,

First weekend out and We can't wait to get out again! No problems as such,we just need to get a slight tilt to the front to ensure the shower drains correctly and make sure there is enough water in the aqua roll and 30 ltr on board tank to have two showers! Tow's like a dream, does what the packet say's we just love it!

Hi All,

First of all thanks to those who replied and gave good advice!

I now give a better update of the first impressions of the California.

As far as general setting up goes it was pretty straight forward and the Al-ko secure aligned up well, but we have got a Rhyno mover fitted.

The front locker is very accessable, aided by a locker door ram. Inside from the front we have the centre chest fitted which gives good storage and easy eating facilities, but does add to the nose weight. After using a S6 Burgundy we found that we we were a little short of room, but this was over come by not being so wasteful with the room provided. The loss of cupboards by the entrance door can be countered by the bed room area which is better laid out and accessable wardrobe.

The front bunks are adequate when crashing out and watching t.v, I,m 6ft and SHMBO is 5'2, so therefore she gets the offside bunk and I get the nearside to accomodate different sizes.

The bed as per Bailey normal is great, we sleep better in the van than we do at home, without ache,s and pains and not too much alcohol.

The room is sufficent and can be isolated for getting changed by using both the bathroom and bed room. As far as the shower room goes it it more than sufficent to accomodate both of us at diffrent times, but I would recommend that both the 30 ltr on board and 40 ltr Aqua roll is used if both are showering one after the other, the shower is 69cm square and allows good movement to get a shower with out the normal cracking of elbows of knees. Lighting throughout the shower and washing area is good as well as good room around the toilet area, well done Bailey.

Lighting in the van is excellent even with the lack of mains lighting and is not only very suitable for hook up sites but also CLs with limited power resources ( e.g battery, solar power or generator)by the use of LEDs. The lack of a drawer over the fire unit is annoying as in the Burgundy this was a boon for cooking implements, but a friend is a carpenter and will amend this simple but daft omission by Bailey.

Towing was great, I thought the Burgundy was good, but the use of the AKS 3000 series and ATC makes a fantastic combanation (as long as you adhere to tyres, nose weight,MPTLM and sensible loading)

The Cooking area is 1 cm bigger that the S6 Burgundy, but this is not noticable, but the loss of a cupboard over the sink is, to the extent that all glasses (acrylic) are now next to the stereo cabinet.

Talking about the stereo this has been a great and good easy to use unit, giving good quality pictures from DVD and sound in general, good tuning lock and jack socket to take MP3,i-pod in our case make things easy.

All in all a great caravan unit that may be a bit smaller than the competition, but I think looking at the others they have got the compromise just right!

Von Ryan
