mmmmmm, what dont I like...!

this would be our dream van, fixed bed, usual senator refinements and a full sized end bathroom with seperate shower. Luxurious on the inside and with drop dead good looks outside.

Currenty saving our coppers to trade in our other Bailey some day, and at the same time trade in our Freelander to our brand new Discovery3 to tow it!

Can't stand the idea of fixed beds, and the silly cut off corners are hell to a big couple like us.

Used son and daughter inlaws Wyoming at Easter in Spain and HATED the stupid bed set-up and they have ordered a new van for the same reason.

Try before you buy, if at all possible!

But they are great vans .

I still think Id prefer a cut off bed as opposed to making one up every night. The thing which i will look forward to when we get a fixed bed is that I can go to bed when im tired and leave hubby in the lounge area. Also he is always up at the crack of dawn (yes - even on holiday), so I can stay in the bed!

Hi Jo Anne,

We have the latest Wyoming, best thing is the value for money, we could not justify spending the extra 3000 on a Swift group product, we have always had Swift products in the past,5 caravans, but if you compare the Senator with the equivalent from Swift, the bathroom is better laid out in the Senator, you pass the toilet to get to the shower in the Bailey, in the Swift it is the other way round, we use the loo more than the shower, also the Swift shower is a round cubicle which takes up more space in the door area of the washroom. The door on the Bailey is a proper door with a solid 'domestic' handle. On the Swift I had to duck and turn sideways to get into the washroom. The bed is good and we do not find the cut off corner a problem, the lighting is good except in the area around the wardrobe, so we are fitting extra 12v lighting outside the wardrobe and another light in the wardrobe. Kitchen area is very good, minor criticism the cutlery draw is small, we took out the waste bin, the kitchen roll holder and the wine rack as no use to us. We never did see the point of the electric plate in the Swift hob, Senator has 4 good size gas burners. Huge fridge(150 litres) and microwave just add to the kitchen area. Lounge is L shape great for watching television etc, OK for eating but can be difficult if you are just having a coffee, there is space on the worktop above the fire. Blown air works well to keep the van warm and all the BA ducting runs inside the van so no heat loss. On board pump can be noisy but the pressure is good and the shower works well as a result. On board tank filler is fiddly you have to move levers each time you want to change from aquaroll to tank, I think the Swift on board tank filler is a better system, but overall we are really pleased with the Wyoming. We tow with a LWB Shogun diesel and so far have had no problems,we were also lucky that the dealer had the van available from stock when we were looking, so we avoided the long wait associated with Baileys.

We all pay our pennies and take our chances, my wife and daughter are 5'10 and 6' and our son in-law is about 6'5' like me. At home we sleep in 5' wide beds that are rectangular and open ended.

The Wyoming looks fine in Practice until one of you is hemmed in against a wall and the others legs are falling over the cut off end of the bed! God knows what it is like for some lardy salad dodgers.

Travelling with grand children we and our daughters family missed the twin dinette set-up as well. Made up bed scenario might suit some but we find it leads to us being on top of one another so to speak, unless one of you wants to spend time laid out lounging on the bed. Our grandchildren and my wife and I can do thing our own things at either end of the van. You can set dinner in the van at one end and still use the other. Making up the bed is a small amount of time and making a bed against a wall is not that great. We don't always put the awning up and living space and you own space is an important factor. From later today we will be on the road with our van until September, our two grandaughters have been dispatched this morning via easy jet to join us.

Thank god we are not using a fixed bed van from our experience!

Re what van, son in-law has cancelled his order for a new van and is swapping the Wyoming with another chap for a Lousiana and having it converted to a twin dinette set-up to his design with a bed set-up that is comfortable.

Try before you buy if you can as they bought quickly and then regretted what seemed to be an "OK, we can live with that" bed following a rave review from friends.

Hi Jo-Anne

The few responses you have had so far indicate that what caravan suits you is a matter of individual taste.

We returned to caravanning after about 18 years (we only gave up at the time because we moved to another area and our new house had a clause in it so we could not keep the caravan at home and we could not find storage as both storage sites in the area (which we had identified before moving) were giving it up!!). We now have two grown up daughters who rarely come away with us in the caravan. In that respect we have an absolutely delightful caravan when the two of us go away but the flexibility is there if one or both of the girls want to come along.

When we caravanned before we had an Abbey Oxford which had an end bathroom and because we liked this then, this was a "must have" when buying our new van.

As someone else has said the Bailey in terms of value for money is second to none and we are fortunate to have an excellent dealer relatively close by.

The layout of the bathroom, as someone else has said, is excellent and even though I am just under 6ft tall the "cut-off" bed has not been an issue.

The kitchen area is well laid out with everything to hand and the fridge/freezer is a super size - loads of room for storing the beer and wine!! and the microwave is also superbly positioned.

We also like the L-shaped lounge although can appreciate it is will not suit everyone.

Obviously others have their own views but for our needs the Wyoming is an excellent van and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

Cheers

Are you talking about the latest Wyoming, Jo-Anne?
Two reasons I ask, Jo_anne. Firstly, I own the previous model Wyoming, it's 18 months old now, so was near to the end of the run on that model, but when we saw the Series 5, we couldn't resist looking at showroom examples. Don't get me wrong, the series 5 Wyoming is an improvement, but it does seem to have lost points too. The water system is a leap backwards, you also loose the outside shower (useful for dog owners) and some parts of the caravan don't seem as well screwed together/equivalent quality as the old model. Along with that you also loose what I would say is the best feature of our model and that is the huge shower. So yes the series 5 is better, but it isn't by much, so is it worth considering an older van, saving a few bob and enjoying your caravanning just as much? Secondly, while we dismissed the new Wyoming, it would cost too much to change for so little gain; it was well worth looking at the Louisiana. Night times are better because you have access to both sides of the bed which also make it easier to tidy in the morning. The shower size while being restricted is not too bad and you have an open and spacious living area. I would take a look at it again (no doubt you have already considered it) and think about some of the practical arguments with the two. I'm pretty sure that the Louisiana will be our next van.

Hi, Just taken delivery in May of the new Wyoming after 23 years caravanning, with first Perle, Swift (2 Vans) Bailey Oklahoma. I'm 5'7" my better half 5'3" so the fixed bed isn't a problem like the Oklahoma but we upgraded for the wider van, an extra 4" and most of all the end bathroom, so luxurious and spacious. Value for money is stunning as others have said. So if you are thinking of it, go for it now. P.s. Off to Cornwall tomorrow for two weeks, hope the weather keeps up.
